Cross Country Rider Summary: This trail network is Tahoe Riding at it's best. Most of it is steep and challenging. I like to ride the singletrack up the Griff Creek drainage all the way to Martis peak for a killer seven mile climb. There are so many roads and trail in this area that are worth exploring. The Tahoe Rim Trail is near Martis Peak and it makes a nice alternate route. This trail network is south facing and the snow melts early. The lower network is open for riding in early May and by June you should be able to ride all the way to Martis Peak. Recommended Route: Follow Myci's directions to the top of Griff Creek and when you come out to the fire road turn left and continue another 5 steep miles to Martis Peak. You will need a map. This riding is not for lollygaggers. You gotta be tough to ride here but the wilderness experiance is worth it. There are very few people here compared to the rest of Tahoe. The trailhead at Chipmunk St. is 6500Ft and Martis Peak is 8900Ft. Other recommended trails in the same area: Tahoe Rim Trail to Martis Peak. Rim Trail From Mt Rose To Tunnel Creek. Crystal Bay Lookout. Flume Trail Hole in The Ground Emigrant Trail.
