Ridden Trail: Please Select

Reviewed by: Lauren Broder
, from San Francisco, CA Summary: From Carr Lake follow the signs and check your map every once in a while to get out to the sand ridge single track. The ride is really fun and technical yet ridable even for a gurl. There is one biggish climb up to sand ridge but WELL worth the push. Descend to the five lakes area or glacier lake. Head back the same way or go around the sawmill lake and make it a loop. FYI, There was some snow the weekend of memorial day 2001, but after ALL the buffed-out single track around the area, it make for a fun adventure with some really good ridin. Recommended Route: From Carr Lake follow a lake and cross over some stream crossings, staying straightish, cross another creek through the forest up up up an exposed rocky hill to sand ridge and descend down. Other recommended trails in the same area: south yuba, round mountain, rim

, from Marin County Summary: This will add some fun and miles to your ride. Head out from Carr Lake to Glacier Lake. When you get to the Glacier Lake Trail I suggest taking the high trail up to Glacier ( a little cross-country at the end) and the lower trail back (upper has the views, lower is fun to ride). On your way back from Glacier turn right and head down to shotgun lake. Continue past Shotgun lake and turn left up to Rock Lake (a short climb here). Continue to Lower Rock Lake where the trail becomes a road. Follow the road back to Carr Lake. Recommended Route: Carr to Glacier to Shotgun to Rock to Carr. Other recommended trails in the same area: Hole in the Ground

Ridden Trail: Once a year

, from Reno Summary: The entire trail out and back is only 14 miles at most. Until the last two miles it is not very techinical, but after that it becomes a hike'n'bike event to get to the lake. The downhill is fun, though. Recommended Route: Take the singletrack, not the jeep road up sand ridge.
