This is one of our favorite trails- there's something for everyone! Fast & furious, long climbs, sweet singletrack, rocky technical sections- it's all here! Good for intermediate riders, but you CAN make it advanced doing the fireroad grind (out of the stream crossing) to the very top (look for the rusted car frame- the trail takes off thru the manzanita from there- it's hard to see the beginning). LOTS of poison oak.
DO NOT RIDE the Mickey Mouse trail as it is on private property and has been closed to bikers for liability concerns. Please respect the locals and stay out of the private property area. Thank you.
Take Highway 50 towards Tahoe. Exit El Dorado Hills Blvd. and head north (turns into Salmon Falls Rd.) Keep going straight for 10 miles. When you hit the big metal bridge, park (if you park in the paved lots, pay the $2- the tickets are expensive!). The trailhead leads from the lot on the north side of the bridge, in the left lot. (PS Also available- the Sweetwater trail on the south side of the steel bridge. Go down into the paved lot on the south side- the trailhead's at the far end of the lot- short, but SWEET!)
Summary: I really like this trail. It is one of the few I've ridden that has a bit of everything. It is primarily single track with a few spots of double track. There are some spots that are very technical and some others that you can get some good speed. If you are deciding if you want to be a mountain biker, this is the trail for you. My first time out I thought I would never do it again. I have now become addicted.
Recommended Route: I usually ride with my son. At the start of the trail, he goes up to the right and I go down to the left. Be careful in this section as it gets steep for a bit. He is an advanced downhiller and is trying to squeeze every hill out of this trail. About 4 - 5 miles later you will reach a big split that follows a downhill drop through a small creek. If you want a downhill run, stay to the right. If you want more twisty singletrack, stay to the left. The trails meet up again in a mile or so. You are now about halfway out. The trails continues along the shore of Folsom Lake. It gets more technical for a while and then opens up to a twisty downhill section. You will eventually end up at a Folsom Lake campsite.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Clementine Loop, Olmstead Loop, Northstar at Tahoe.

Summary: Just rode Darrington for the first time this year and I got to enjoy almost like it was my first time again. Nice trail. Some technical/rocky sections but mostly a pretty smooth roller with some small ups and downs but nothing drastic. Good place to take beginner riders to get them to work on thier technical skills. The water level is pretty high right now so toward the end of the trail you'll have to walk down about 30 yards to cross. (water is about 4-5 feet deep in the middle of the trail there).
Recommended Route: Out and back. New/Intermediate riders stay left at the split or you'll be going up Flagstaff toward Mickey Mouse.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Browns Ravine / Dyke 8

Summary: I like this trail because it's challenging to me. Some sections with the rocks are real cool for the learning phase. This trail is teaching me how to shift, when to shift, when to brake and how hard to brake. (Complete with falls of course.) I've only rode it twice, but, as a new mountain biker, it has took the wind from my lungs a few times on some of the climbs. I'm learning on my own and take any advice I can get from the more experienced.
Recommended Route: I take the left at the start. Would like to take the steep rocky right, but need to improve on much needed skills first. (I'm new to this sport.)

Ridden Trail: Once a month

Summary: This area has many different trails to go on and most are interconnected. Fun for hardtails and full suspension but I would deffinaetly have front suspension. We like to do a run that has plenty of bumpy trail, staight aways to quick uphills to awesome down hills and a huge 2 mile up hill. (But be careful when coming down!). Experienced riders as well as novice will have fun here.
Recommended Route: N. 99 from Lodi to Grant Line Road. Left at stop sign and go straight on that road for about 50 minutes. Turn left onto El Dorado Hills Blvd. and go straight until to get right before the metal bridge in the summary and park in the dirt. So you dont pay the 2 dollars.
