(from the top)sweet swooping sinlge track winds it's way into the Jacoby creek drainage then folloss the creek out to the beginning of Jacoby creek road.
(to the top)9 miles up fickle hill road, spray paint on trees says trail closed... it's not.I recommend shuttling this one the first time. it's easier to find your way out. But it makes a sweet out-and-back too!!!

Summary: Very fun trail, i get very scared and i have to stop and cry and talk to the spider webs that have accumulated on my face, i like it, mountain biking is cool and neato, i like spending money on funny looking bikes, i have a khs mountain bike its funny looking, i like to mountain bike, i want to get real good so as i can make it down and up those creeks at the bottom, it probably is riparian like those college types were talking about.
Recommended Route: have someone drive you to the top and ride down, it will take like two hours cause you always have to walk and cry because it is so hard to ride down, it is more than hard it's scary and frightening.

Summary: Trail is fast singletrack with some small singles you can get air on, some spots are very rutted, very steep in spots, a lot of creek crossings, first bridge is a foot and a half wide and fifteen long, the bridge at the end is wide but falling apart, the trail is well worth the nine mile ride up ficle hill, the complete loop is about 23 miles.
Recommended Route: Ride up fickle hill down couch and back to arcata.
Other recommended trails in the same area: ossagaon loop, grasshopper peak, look prarie to albee creek campground loop(bull creek area), arcata community forest

Ridden Trail: Once a month

Summary: Spectacular - 35 to 45 minutes of tight, swooping, downhill single-track in a beatiful setting. After winding your way through the upper forest, you reach Jacoby Creek and you're surrounded by a lush and vibrant green riperian wonderland. Places that have the potential to challenge experienced riders or force less experienced riders to dismount and walk include one short but steep part midway through the the upper section, two bridge crossings in the lower section (The first bridge, about fifteen feet long and fourteen inches wide, is a little tricky because you have to change your line right before you reach it. The second bridge is wide enough for a car, BUT it is falling apart and incredibly slick.), and one gully crossing in the lower section where your momentum to ascend the back side is killed by the steep notch at the bottom. Remember, all the obstacles mentioned above can be quickly and easily walked. The trail is a blast - one long roller coaster ride.
Recommended Route: From Arcata, ride (a steep, paved climb that will take 1 - 1 1/2 hours) or drive (20 - 30 minutes) about nine miles up Fickle Hill Road until you reach a cluster of trees on the right side which are spray-painted white and reads, "trail closed." There is no gate. Once on the trail, if you keep going downhill, it's very easy to not get lost. The upper section of the trail heads down the hill until you reach Jacoby Creek, at which point you head right (downhill and downstream) onto the lower section of the trail. At this point, the grade becomes more gradual and you will cross the drainage in a few places. The trail lets out at Jacoby Creek Road, and you can easily pedal back to Arcata. Alternatively, although I've never tried it, you could park at the bottom and ride up it.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Tish Tang, ask around.

Summary: It's good though, fun on a rig or a cross country bike, but either way you will have to pedal. Enjoy the scenery, it's epic. Beautiful foliage both riparian and otherwise. The trail drops into jacoby creek and crosses it in several locations. It even makes a good hike, but can get overgrown in the offseason. Check it out it's worth your time.
Recommended Route: Head down fast, and keep your eyes open on the left side to see the tweeked out death drop and imagine hitting it on a hardtail, Mr. T did...
Other recommended trails in the same area: Drop by Revolution Bicycle Repair (14th & G) in Arcata and they'll tell you all about'em. There's a bunch.
