Cross Country Rider Summary:
Just got back from St. Maarten. This trail is easy to find, well marked, only moderately technical in a few areas, and has great views. The locals call it the Bellevue Trail. You will share the trail with cows, bulls & goats that with a little coaxing will yield way. I regret that I only had my camera phone with me, therefore the photo's are weak. Many thanks to Susy at Tri-Sport rentals who hooked me up with a bike, helmet, spd pedals, slimed tires, a toolkit, maps and directions. The slime saved me as I found one of those 2" long thorns with my front tire & rode out without needing to repair it. in sharing of the spirit of the other reviews of this trail, it's the views & scenery that find most intriguing. The trail entrance is at a gravel & mud parking lot on Union Road across from a Texaco gas station in the Marina Port de Plaisance area (Dutch Side). You drop your bike over the fence at the north edge of the lot then crawl through it to access the trail. There's a car wash beside the parking lot that is handy for cleaning up if you are out on a messy day (as I was). Cheerio, as the locals say.

Cross Country Rider Summary:
The trail was surprisingly good. The very best way to do it is with the locals that do a group ride early Saturday mornings. Go to Tri_Sport bike shop near the airport for more info. They rent everything you need. I took my peddles, shoes and hydration. Recommended Route:
Start from the Dutch side. Enter through a gate across the street from the Princess casino and a Texaco station. Staying right and its a good climb right away. Be aware the dried out bushes on the side of the trail they have two inch thorns. Stay clear. Tri-Sport does slime the tires.

I used to live in St. Maarten and the riding is great. If you are on the Island with out a bike go to Tri-Sport and rent a bike. They will set you up with maps, helmets etc... There are plenty of big climbs and technical terrain near Fryer's bay. The Caribeen Cup stops here each year. The race I watched had a crazy 35 foot cliff drop that riders had to make it down. Some riders just tossed the bike and climbed down. CRAZY! Don't be turned off. Most of the trails are doable stuff and the views are awesome. You can see islands out over the sea like St. Barts and Saba. Don't miss out if you are in St. Maarten.
