Black river

This trail can be started from pretty much anywhere along its route, I have chosen the Black River Gorge Parking Lot near the town of Black river as its a safe place to park if you arrive by Car. Check out the route on a map/Google earth first. Leaving the car park going out of the park on tar until the T-junction, turn right onto the sand rd, heading west around Tamarin mountain. A left bend takes you past a small dam on your left, as you enter the 1st ,of many, sugar cane rd’s: feel free to explore this area till you come out the Northern end past the bushy/wild area on your right. You’ll eventually join up with a paved rd that meets a traffic circle, stick to the dirt rd on the right, cross a stream and keep to the right along a fence between the cane field on yr left and bushy/wild area on yr right. Follow this fence/wall till you pass the Casela Nature area, across the parking lot, right, across the stream and head west towards the hills with Casela still on your right, keep following the track with cane on left and trees/bush on your right, you’ll pass a small settlement, take a steepish right turn and meet up with a paved rd near a large truck works type place, keep this on your left as you skirt round on a dirt rd, crossing a stream back into a pretty big cane field, explore! You now want to keep heading to the top of the rise in the distance(west) as close to the mountains on your right. Once at the top keep the mtn’s on your right (which eventually becomes the top ridge) with where you’ve been down below in the distance on your right. Follow the ridge for as long as possible, in the cane again! Some great views down to the coast! Till u get to the Tamarin reservoir(7 cascades). This is where it gets tricky, try and explore as close to the ridge as possible without trespassing, there are closed gates around here. And generally make your way to the next reservoir and onto the Petrin national park office rd! take the dirt rd into the park, there are lots of weekend riders out here going to the view point! Before you get to the view point turn left at a signpost heading left on another dirt rd! now it gets very technical. The jeep track becomes very steep, wet, rocky, muddy etc, hectic downhill till you bottom out at the bottom of the gorge, 2 river crossings will get you back to the car park on an interesting jeep track. Enjoy!
