Paarl Rock Nature Reserve

Mostly at a downhill gradient on terrain that has a few bumps here and there. Watch out for cars as the road is open to cars. If you go in the clockwise direction you'll have quite a long climb with a short downhill near the end. Look on the side of the trail for very technical downhills. Two of them lead into a dam so be careful.

Tight corners with small berms.

Take road in front of the KWV building, turn right at intersection and follow road until you reach another section, turn left until you reach gate. Take the road that leads to the red-and-white FM tower, follow fire-road to the left of tower.

Once a week

Reviewed by: pr0xy , from Paarl

Summary:
In the area around the Language Monument(Southern-Paarl) - "Playgrounds" and a couple of short, technical downhill tracks(easy to intermediate), through lots of trees(duh!). There's a picnic area next to the gravel road and near the big rocks, where you can have a look at some of the trails, at the info office. There's a very technical downhill track on the mountain at the Northern-Paarl side which starts 200m from the TV signal tower(high, red color; this is the object to look for, when you're searching for this downhill track, can be accessed via vehicle). It starts off through bushes and rocks and accelerates into trees where you can get a few jumps. The track splits into another 3 tracks near the gravel road:1) the left track takes you further down to Northern-Paarl, 2) the middle track takes you to the gravel road and 3) the right track takes you to Southern-Paarl. (medium - hard) A track runs parallel(above the road) with the gravel road. Can be found more to the Northern-Paarl side. The start is located near tar poles, next to the gravel road; start the track clockwise(the track is more downhill). In the middle of this track, the downhill trail(as described above) joins this track. At the end is a wire-tar-pole-fence with an entry/exit, close to a tar road. Be on the look out for off-road motorbikes(you will hear them!!). (5-7kms, intermediate) If you decide to take the gravel road all the way beyond the gate, take lots of liquid with you. There are many road tracks to take once you're on top of the mountain. (10 - 38kms, easy - moderate)

Recommended Route:
Enter/exit either from the Southern-Paarl, in front of the KWV or Northern-Paarl end, follow road up to gate(here you can purchase a map). Once pass the gate you can take a couple of routes on top of the mountain. Be on the look out for downhill rides(moderate to difficult) on the mountain's eastern face.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Jonkershoek, Franschhoek
