Ridden Trail: Once a week

, from Somerset West, SA Summary: The whole area is owned by SAFCOL (the largest logging company in SA). Here you could ride for a whole weekend and not cover the same ground twice. For the novices and not so adventurous there is fairly level fire roads and enjoyable single track around the shores of the lake. While the hardcore junkies can head for the mountains. From I guess a couple hundred metres above sealevel one can climb to well over 1000m above sealevel along various routes into the Hottentots Mtns. It is probably best to ride with someone who knows the area quite well otherwise you'll miss the best single tracks. They have something for all, serious drop offs, rocky technical stuff and fast smooth tracks over the pine needles. Recommended to start out early in the morning and then finish off with a wicked brunch at the Peregrine Farm Stall situated just out of town on the N2. Recommended Route: As the other reviews state, take the N2 highway out of Cape Town, past Somerset West and onto the small apple farming community of Grabouw. Follow the signs to Elgin Country Club and park there. Entrance fee is R5.00 - That's less than a dollar US!! Other recommended trails in the same area: Stellenbosch:- +/- 30 mins from Cape Town. You can start at the Eden entrance and work your way across the Coetzenburg Reserve and up into Jonkershoek. If you go to the top of the saddle, the whole ride should take 2,5 to 3 hrs. Hardcore stuff and great riding.

, from Cape Town Summary: Grabouw offers the most varied riding terrain of any trail I have ridden in SA (SpinnerCity (Benoni) and Sun City, Harkerville included). There are new sections being opened continually and any of these are excellent. The singletrack sections are excellent for the experienced rider but not too scary for the novice. If you fall at least you'll have a story to tell. The TWO a Day fun ride takes place here and is one of the best on the fun ride calender. Keep up the good work Wouter and Co. so we can get some lekker routes for next year. Recommended Route: For fun times: Single track in lower forest is ample. For hard core: Climb to transmitter will get the blood pumping Other recommended trails in the same area: Grabouw............Grabouw........Grabouw.......Grabouw

, from Somerset West SA Summary: We ride here virtually every weekend and you can choose a combination of tracks that vary sufficiently every time to keep it fresh. Great views, great single tracks, serious challenges and pretty accessible to Cape Town. Recommended Route: ALL! You can ride single track, jeep track/fire roads and combinations for a day without covering all. From not very technical to top level challenges. Great! Killer climbs but you can get up to 12 or even more Km of single track down again over rough bridges/rocky bits, the works.

, from Cape Town Summary: The first climb hurts a little, but is definitly worth it. Once you reach the ascent, the views and riding is great. nice routes that follow rivers, with a crossing or two. I did it in winter, and can recommend that time of the year. Looking forward to do it again as soon as possibe. Given a four because I only rode it once so far. Recommended Route: Spent a morning messing about in the area. have very little knowledge of the area, but had a extremely good ride.
