The Wall (Afan Argoed park)

See: http://www.mbwales.com/images/maps/afan1_s.gif Superb trail re-vamped by Russ Burton and Co for 2003. Raved about by UK magazines and amazing wasn't listed here before. After leaving car park the trail takes you away from the forest centre and towards the river Afan. Ride down the river to the bridge to get onto the opposite site of the valley before following the old railway gradient back up. The trail is waymarked. Once of the old railway the serious business begins, some excellent single track climbing and decending as the trail cuts its way along the valley wall. All builds up to excellent final 2 or 3km downhill, singletrack with sheer drops and loads of switchbacks all the way down.

Summary:
Starts off from the centre. A short single track climb is followed by a short single track descent. From there you head across the valley and after a fairly flat start you hit the serious climbing, predominantly on fire road. All this effort is rewarded by some fantastic downhill single track which is challenging but could probably be tackled by most people at different speeds.

By the time you hit the bottom you should be grinning ear to ear.

Good Cafe & facilities on site also.

Recommended Route:
Follow the way markings which are excellent

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Not tried them but the Whites level and Penhyndd Trail are also in the area

Other recommended trails in the same area:
9ft.com trail also at Afan Argoed, also reviewed on this site. Probably just as good as The Wall when the hidden valley section is open.
