Tennyson Trail

Classic chalk downland, steep in places but not technical, but some fast downhills. Mainly dry except in forest sections. There are many permutations on the route that can take you off the main ridge, but to stop too much map reading it's much easier to ride from Freshwater Bay to Carisbrooke without deviating from the ridge and return the same way. Some great views on the way and don't expect to meet many people.

Trail Directions
Don't bring your Car for the day, way to expensive. Whether coming with just your bike or by car the Lymington to Yarmouth car ferry is the best option. Start from Yarmouth and follow the old railway track next to river until you hit Freshwater bay where trail starts in earnest.

Summary:
It's a good trail for some light hearted fun. it isn't technical as was said but it does have some sweeping downhills that have opportunites to make them a bit more technical as well as off-cuts into forests for some jumping fun. I went over a few weeks ago and left the car in Southampton (9 return foot ferry). Word of caution - Red Funnels car park (The triangle) has a bad record for car crime. Apparently there is a better car park down the same road as the Red Funnel building without car crime. Gratefully my car didn't get knicked/damaged but judging by the amount of broken glass every where (and the fact he guy in the kiosk told me!!!!) there IS a lot of crime there. check out www.theperfectline.com for a full review of my weekend on the IOW.
