Salcey Forest

Loads of routes, trails, fire track & single track. Not worth travelling more than 50 miles for, but you easily spend a couple of fun hours blatting round here. If you're lucky, you'll find a section of single track over some bridges (quite a grand decsription for a couple of slippery railway sleepers!) and find the bombhole and "Dog Pit". Not the biggest, but it's the one I took my boss (who's registered blind) and got him doing the wall of death around... One broken ankle later and my career seems to have lost its momentum! My preference is to do this at night, with a bar full of Lumicycles - the best lights you can get.

Summary:
The forest has nine miles of good tracks with various bidleways off it. The main one being the Swans Way which shares it's beginnings with the Three Shires Way, both worthy of more than a day visit. Both long distance paths can be picked up at various stages along the route and are well documented else where. Winter going on bridleways can be sticky due to the local clay but the forest tracks are consistently good and well used, also used extensively by horseriders.

Recommended Route:
MI,J15. Towards Milton Keynes, turn left into Roade, through Hartwell. Straight on over the crossroad beyond Hartwell to the Car Park on the right. Salcey Forest is the beginning of the Swans Way which goes for about fifty miles through Milton Keynes and beyond Alyesbury.
