Ridden Trail: Once a year

Reviewed by: Richard
, from Hook, Hampshie Summary: I grew up about 100 yards from the edge of Oldbury woods, and spent thousands of hours over the years cycling in this area. Oldbury Woods one of the most beautiful places, with far reaching views, steep Iron Age ramparts, ancient oak and beech trees and fern lined singletrack. Most of it is technically off limits, but I've been riding there for more than 20 years and never had any problems; use your common sense and don't tear up the place..it's a magical wood. Recommended Route: From the car park at the west edge of the woods by the campsite, it is possible to take a nice ride up the bridlepath, straight over the A25 (careful here) and up a narrow sandy path to Raspit Hill. Other recommended trails in the same area: There are loads of variations, this is the best loop Ifound..there's a bit of roadwork, but there are some non-ligit shortcuts if you look for them to take a few miles more off road. Take a map! I'm not sure how far this loop is..but it'll take at least an hour and a half, maybe more. I should go back and measure it one of these days! If you want to go on this ride, my parents still live nearby..so get in touch and I'll drive over!!

Ridden Trail: Once a week

, from Borough Green Summary: This is a great route for beginners or people just wanting an easy ride, and because it is only short (5-6 miles) it is an ideal summertime after work ride. During the winter the bridleway sections can get very muddy, and generally speaking run-ins with walkers are very rare. Recommended Route: From the car park, head back out to the A25 and cross straight over into the woods. Follow the singletrack past the ponds and head up hill until you reach the steps. Go up the steps turn right and follow the bridleway until it reaches a road. Follow the road past the school and church and then (at the bend in the road) dive back into the woods on your left and follow the bridleway or footpaths along the top of the hill. After about 1/2 mile (this might take a bit of finding) you will find a path leading off of the bridleway to the left and downhill. You have duck under a fallen tree and some holly.
