Weekend Warrior Summary: I always thought CoedYBrenin was tha best in Wales, but just tried this trail last weekend & this is comparable just in minature.
its now renamed to soummut other than 9-foot but cant remember what the name was.
lukily I got a free brochure that I just dug up - its called The Pehhydd Trail.
Took about 2.5hours to drive there, less than 2 hours to do the circuit and 2.5hours back again.
Very nice to be able to get to a 'proper' MTB trail in a day from the SE of England.
Its not too hard, but if you push it too much you'll come a cropper - gets the adrenaline pumpin no diggedy.
Like the other dude said this had me whoopin and grinnin a plenty.
check out www.afanforestpark.co.uk
peas-oot. Other recommended trails in the same area: Coed-Y-Brenin (well its Wales..)

Ridden Trail: Once a week

Reviewed by: Dewi
, from South Wales Summary: This trail is shortly to be sponsered by Rock Mountain and has been complete for about a year, as work continues on The Wall Trail, on the other side of the valley. Leaving the visitors center you climb on twisty singletrack, for about 10 mins' until you hit the first fireroad climb. This first climb is the worst, and will take a fit rider about 15mins to reach the top. From here it's into Desolation, a narrow piece of s/t, followed closely by Brashy Track, a swooping down hill section on compacted stoney s/t. Green Run follows, probably the most boaring piece of s/t on the whole loop and then a short sharp climb up A Ridge Too Far. The Hidden Valley is next. This is as good a piece of s/t as you'll find anywhere. It's all downhill, and criss crosses a steep sided valley. Takes about 6 mins to ride. At the bottom of Hidden Valley a short fire road climb takes you to Sidewinder, a fast and twisty piece of s/t ,rocky and rooty in places. This leads almost straight into Dead Sheep Gulley, another mile or so of fast sweeping s/t. At full tilt, it still takes me 10mins to do both sections. Another fire road climb leads to Genesis, a short but sweet piece of s/t which is to be replaced soon with a longer section, and from here another fireroad climb takes you to The River Crossing. This is another fast and flowing piece of s/t which, you guessed it ends in a river crossing. From here there's another 10mins worth of twisty, wooded s/t to take you back to the visitors center. This route is suitable for anyone with a little experience, with no major shocks or suprises to throw you off your steed. Will test you climbing though. Recommended Route: Follow the sign posts Other recommended trails in the same area: The Wall.

Ridden Trail: Every few months

, from London Summary: Excellent pocket-sized trail combining a bit of grind with a lot of grin. First third goes mostly up the hill. Almost all of the climbing is on fire roads, except for a few gentle bits at the start. The descents make full use of the space, winding ribbon back and forth across the fall line. Great mix of switch-backs, whoops, rocks and roots in a rollercoaster design to keep you rolling without losing height too quickly. Just as good at night in the driving rain(!?). Fire roads get a bit gluey, but the st holds up well. Recommended Route: Follow the signs - approx 8 miles Other recommended trails in the same area: The Wall - other side of the same valley, forest, and car park. Cwn Carn - off J27 on M4 - awesome trail.

, from Sunbury Summary: As with other reviewers, I agree mbr were spot on. This route on a fine day was amazing, nice and fast, over too soon. Counting the seconds 'til the next trip. 2.5 hours from London, worth the small effort. Recommended Route: 9feet - Start grinning Other recommended trails in the same area: Wall for the climb (singlespeed - are you mad?) and view, the downhill is a waste, hopefuly this will be improved to mirror 9feet?

, from London Summary: Rode this shortly after it was reviewed in MBR and totally agree with them. A killer climb followed by shed loads of singletrack thats as much fun as Coed-y-brenin. It was bone-dry at the time which made bits like Sidewinder go too fast but theres nothing to stop you doing a couple of laps. It didn't take long to get there on the M4 either, compared with the slog to Snowdonia. Recommended Route: 9feet.com (or whatever it's called now)
