Best ridden anticlockwise particularly after rain as gets very soft on boggy areas and impossible ascents without significng pushes in clockwise direction. I usually start from Lumpers Inn with good initial ascent on cinder road and great drop off down grassy section into middle valley, fast descet down road to second ascent on gradaul grassy slopes bar v small sections over rocks, most can be ridden. Good descent into Carlingford with some faster sections but watch out for walkers++. Bite to eat in Carlingford good option before setting out on second half ride. I use road to get to Omeath (Tain path signed NOT FOR BIKES)Then hang a right back on to Tain trail proper and zig zag through roads to base of tough tarmac ascent towards mast. Nice descent back to Ravensdale and easy ride along road back to Lumpers - and dinner!

four of us took this trail in a clockwise direction (its a circular route around the Cooley mountains)
starts off with a pretty tough climb out of town and up into the hills. its waymarked so you can't miss it. I'd say anti clockwise would be a great ride too, and possibly easier...maybe do both over a weekend. Carlingford has great restos and bars + a hostel and loads of b n b's.

Recommended Route:
go to carlingford.
go to the center of town.
follow the signs.
route can be done clockwise or anticlockwise.
we took about 4 -5 hours.
we then went to bed for the rest of the afternoon!

Other recommended trails in the same area:
lots of potential in the area.
