Summary:
if im not mistaken the trail brian mentions is known locally as "joey molloys".the best way to find it is via the main entrance to ballinastoe woods{travel from kilmac towards glendalough, turn right at ballinastoe crossand left at the top of the road and its on your right}take the first right and go uphill for about 3k as the ground levels off you should see the trail disappear downhill through the trees on the left.the trail is in three sections as it cuts across two fireroads.at the first fireroad you can go left or right, there are two middle sections,at the next fireroad go left.this is one of the best downhill singletracks around and can be quite technical at times.its a bit mucky in the winter

Recommended Route:
you can also pick up thistrail from lugala.go into the woods and go left at the second fork.you will have to have located the head of the route in advance as you will be going downhill at speed when you come to it.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
the trail fergal mentions can be done as a loop when you pick up the wicklow way above lough dan you can follow this back to lugala

Summary:
an Spinc glendalough co wicklow
begins with a fairly steep ascent past the waterfall and turning right ontorailway sleepers forming steps to the top.follow the sleepers downhill until they end just before the downhill section to the lake.this is quite rough with many switchbacks and rocky patches.after this you can follow the main track or the single track parralel with the lake

Recommended Route:
begin from the car park at the upper lake and head for the waterfall continue past here and turn right at the sign for "an Spinc" railway sleepers form steps here follow them to the top and then towards the other end of the lake.where the sleepers end follow the trail over the bridge andbear right for the descent to the lake.after the mines at the bottom follow the track to the left of the lake back to the car park alternatively you can follow a singletrack which runs paralel to this track but right on the edge of thelake
