Strmssen

This relatively small area has it all, so just go up there and explore. Enormous amount of technical trails, and a few fairly easy (but fast!). It's almost impossible to get lost, as you have the town right there below. When you're satisfied, just head home doing that last sweet screaming downhill. Very few people, just a few hikers, and you might just bump into me or the odd moose.

Trail Directions
Start anywhere at Austad Skog, e.g. at DrafnKollen. Main trail starts from the corner of the soccer-field. Climb until you can't get any higher, then bomb singletrack. Another option is to start from Galterud Skole, but here the climbing is farily technical!

Ridden Trail:
Once a month

Reviewed by: Anders , from Oslo, Norway

Summary:
I've ridden a lot of trails all over Norway but still cant find anywhere better than Strmssen. The place got everything!! I can go for technical singletrack riding with KO, or bring my 12-year old cousin for a ride, and still everyone have a blast. The area is also excellent to scare off roadies or anyone you should happen to dislike, by simply choose trails carefully.
Virtually every trail is rideable, so you wont get stuck somwhere, carrying your bike for miles....
The trail surface varies a lot, but there is plenty of dirt&root covered sigletrack, a few open fire roads, rock gardens, and smooth naked rock. And of course the genuine, Norwegian MUD!
:o)
As KO said, there are almost no other trail users, so there is quite a lot singletrack that is about to be totally overgrown. After moving to Oslo, I havent had time to ride as much as I did, but I hope it will change soon... Maybe I'll be able to help you keeping the trails open, KO ?
Too bad the rating systen only allows 5 stars....

Recommended Route:
Anywhere! Just ride. I Usually stick behind KO's rear wheel, so I go where he goes (which is, basically aywhere)

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Uh... Every piece of singletrack is worth riding. Just go ride.

Reviewed by: Knut Olaf Knutsen , from Asker, Norway

Summary:
All kinds of singletrack, smooth, gnarly, sweeping, tight, technical, steep, very steep, almost unrideable, very enjoyable!

Recommended Route:
Favourite trails all over, but the gems are near 'Dunkedalen' (means 'smashing valley'), 'Hellashytta' and 'Haukstoppen'

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Can be combined with trips into Konnerudmarka and Vestskogen for truly epic rides. Most fun to be had at Strmssen, though.
