Summary:
There is a good mix of trails here. People of any riding discipline/ability can have fun at Frankenstein. There is everything from mellow to fast, flowy singletrack to berms, rollers, drops and 15 ft doubles. Most of the trails intersect at various points, so there are many possibilities. Most of these trails run down the hill. The climb back up is long, but not terrible. Have yet to try the ridge trail. I can't speak on that, but it's on my to-do list.

Recommended Route:
Take the access road up to the castle parking lot. Ride towards the castle gate, then hang a left on the gravel road to the trail. OR go thru the gates, pass the restaurant and go down the stone stairs thru the small gate at the back. One can catch the trails from there.

Summary:
This trail is a series of trails that cover a ridgeline that runs North and South, mainly between Darmstadt and continues past Heidelberg. There is some singletrack if you search for it. The trails are generally not full of hikers, but, if the weather is nice, look out for them. There are three castles I've come across, THE Frankenstein, Auerback and Alsback. Mostly, these trails are well maintained and about 2 meters wide. Not challenging, except for the long climbs, but fun nontheless. There are four bike shops within about five miles, from North to South, town of Alsbach (Trek shop, main road (B3) near Villa Journal, Rad und Tat in Zwingenberg just off of B3, Bike Praxis near Bensheim on B3, Biker's Treff (Specialized and Scott) in Bensheim. From Biker's Treff, you can see two other bike shops, a Giant dealer and a fitness place with bikes. Lots of selection here.

Recommended Route:
A5 towards Darmstadt, follow signs to Frankenstein Castle. You can park at the bottom of the hill and ride up the road or trails. Have lunch in the castle restaurant. OR you can park at the castle and ride the ridgeline.
