Spang Loop

The Spangdahlem Loop!!! Starts at the main gate of Spangdahlem Air Base, follow outside the perimeter fence until you are on the back side of base near the firing range. Take a left onto the small fire road that has been torn up by logging operations. After reaching the next fire road take a left to the Y in the road where you will see a small camouflaged fire road on your right hand side...this is where the fun begins. Would recommend going with someone who has been on this trail before because it's easy to get lost. From here the road S’s for about 50 yards until you reach a 4-way, go left, stay left and follow the beaten path. Watch for fallen trees and a wet root, this area sees very little sun shine. After the Roller coaster ride to the bottom of the hill follow the gradual climb watch for a steep left off the fire road which will take you back across the fire road you were on on single track double hump into what's called the pit. Go left off the second hump or it’s all trees and a swim. As you take the last hump out of the pit area the trail opens to another fire road...cross the open area and take a left at the top of the hill for a fast pace ride to the river. Cross the river on the bridge go left at the T; follow the river for a gradual 2.5 mile climb then down hill again to the river. Cross the river again (on the bridge or ride through the river during the summer), look for the house on the left and then in true Eifel fashion another hill climb. When you reach the top of the hill the road will T, go left for more hill climb. This will take you back to the Air Base (behind Housing) where you can do the Loop again or call it a day.
This trail is a grate work out for local riders with about 2 miles of technical single track. The hills will definitely work your legs and when it’s wet it adds to your resistance training. One trip around the Loop is about 10 miles from Trail Head to Trail Head. Most riders do two laps and head for the house.
