Summary:
This trail is a series of trails that cover a ridgeline that runs North and South, mainly between Darmstadt and continues past Heidelberg. There is some singletrack if you search for it. The trails are generally not full of hikers, but, if the weather is nice, look out for them. There are three castles I've come across, THE Frankenstein, Auerback and Alsback. Mostly, these trails are well maintained and about 2 meters wide. Not challenging, except for the long climbs, but fun nontheless. There are four bike shops within about five miles, from North to South, town of Alsbach (Trek shop, main road (B3) near Villa Journal, Rad und Tat in Zwingenberg just off of B3, Bike Praxis near Bensheim on B3, Biker's Treff (Specialized and Scott) in Bensheim. From Biker's Treff, you can see two other bike shops, a Giant dealer and a fitness place with bikes. Lots of selection here.

Recommended Route:
Autobahn 5 between Darmstadt and Heidelberg. Take almost any exit around #29 (that's Zwingenberg). Head for the hills. Look for a "P" sign at the foot of the ridge line and ride up. There are trailheads all over the place, not to mention lots of bike shops.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
More south towards Heidelberg. Stuttgart has trails all over, but, have a lot of traffic.
