Summary:
I mostly ride out of Roquebrune-sur-argens. Le Massif des Maures towards St. Maxime is probably just as good as the Esterel. Lots of single-trails.
If you are in the area and want to hook up for a ride please let me know! I would love to meet other riders who speak English (my French pretty much sucks)!
I am here until June 2006! jakekirschner@hotmail.com

Summary:
I spent the afternoon here today, startign from Theoule

Spent most of my time on fireroad which was kinda frustrating - maybe the authorities have tightened up on access since the earlier reviews.

Most of the exciting lookign trails I found were signed 'no bikes'- in particular the GR51 from Col des Suvieres southwards (after I slogged up there to go ride it!). And the descent to Lac de l'Ecreuil fron Col des Trois Termes as well

Beautiful scenery, quite and remote feeling, but lots of fire roads (yaaaawn).

But perhaps I was in the wrong place, will go back and try the area E & N of Mt Vainagre, and maybe further south by Frejus and St Rapaheal too

& if there is anyone in the area who would like to hook up for riding, leave a message here, mail me on matt at interestigntimes dotnet or call me on +44 7786 993976 - I'm around until end Nov 05.

Recommended Route:
I did Theoule -> Col de Theoule by the northern of the 2 tracks on the map ie not the gr 51 (excellent single track this bit) -> Col de la Cladiere (fire road) -> down to Lac de l'Ecureil by the track runnign to the east side of Sommet des Collets Redons (fun double track descent with entetainign ford at end) -> fire road to Col des Trois Termes (intendign to ride down the GR51 but it was all marked as nature reserve, no bikes), then I got a bit pissed off and, along with a map reading error, ended up taking the road descent.

Summary:
Beautiful and quiet Nat. Park on the coast between Cannes and St. Raphael. Several entry points, Theoule sur Mer in the north, Agay in the south. Dry and rocky fireroads and singletrack, mostly through trees. Chance to see wild boar and deer if you're lucky. 100's of kms of trails, climbs up to 2000' asl.

Recommended Route:
My fav. trail starts in Theoule, climbing up to Col de la Cadiere, down to Lac de l'Ecreuil, Gorge de la Mal Infernet, long climb up to Mt. Vinaigre, Col des Trois Termes and back to Theoule, around 3.5 hrs.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Too many to list.

Summary:
Massif de l'Esterel here is well know for being a haven of peace and nature. Climbers as well as paragliders ot mountainbikers know l'Esterel. Take a topo, and go explore, every trail is worth it ! Not too difficult, (though one can always not follow thge path..), so if you like red stone, go !

Recommended Route:
From St Raph or...anyway, all the routes are okay..
