The tour has been covered in 5 days by 3 italian MTBikers on August 1999. Each day about 50 km average has been done.
Day 1: La Thuile - Bourg S.Maurice (60% fire road 40% paved)sleep in town (no sleeping bags - no tents: 4 kg backpack)
Day 2: Bourg S.Maurice - Arc 2000 - Plan Pesey very hard but beautiful; 25 km of asphalt (very hot) climbing to Arc 2000, then 40 km of fire road/singletrack (from Col de la Chal) in the forest (total climb:2100m). Sleep in a hotel with swimming pool WOW!
Day 3: Plan Pesey - La Plagne :we are very tired, we choose a quiet road in the forest and we reach La Plagne in the early afternoon.
Day 4: La Plagne - Tignes across the Vanoise Park. One of the most beautiful tracks I've ever seen. Long and difficult, high passes (2600m Col Du Palet), breath-taking downhill to Tignes among sheeps and cows after a terrible rainfall.
Day 5: from Tignes to La Thuile on asphalt, fast road to Bourg S.Maurice, then 28 km climbing to La Rosiere and Col du Petit S.Bernard; fast downhill to La Thuile.
Day 6: ferry boat to Sardinia for a week of relax under the sun!
P.S.: we were the only bikers using their own legs to climb, everybody was using remonte mecanique!!! BUUUU! Shame on you!!!
