Mont Cesaire

Cross country ski trails suited to mountain bikes. Lots of good technical climbs and downhills. Since these are basically XC ski trails watch out for lots boulders and tree roots. Great fun when hidden by the leaves in the fall.I heard there is only one guy to take care of all the trails, hence the abundance of downed trees due to a recent storm. More of a nuissance than a real problem and it should be cleared up soon. Trails range from easy (Sapiniere) to relativly hard (Cesaire).Want a workout? Climb the Cesaire from the parking lot.If you make it, my hat goes off to you.

Summary:
If you take trail 15 you better be in good shape for a good climb at the start. This trail is not a fast XC trail, its a single track with a lot of technical obstacle to deal with. A lot of rocks, roots, swamps, mud. The trail is not for novice, but is not to dangerous, the trail are at they pure natural state, not very well maintened. It gives a good element of surprise and adventure. I suggest you do 15 and then come back with 4 to l'auberge du vieux foyer. Their is so much to explore in this area, I will soon go back

Recommended Route:
Highway 15, exit 76, turn right on rue de l'glise, keep going street name change to Doncaster, park your car past Lamoureux street. Look up for the trails signs

Summary:
A wonderful place with something for everyone, not only for mtb bikers. If you like rock climbing, the Mont Cesaire is one of the best place in Quebec with many different cliffs. Also, the landscapes are great, so you'll probably meet a lot of hikers. For mtb, the trails are basically XC ski trails. So you have a lot of indications, panels with the difficulty of the trail, etc. Most of the trails are at the base of the mountain and they are wide and fast, with a bit of small rocks, nice small jumps, wood bridges, etc. For more extreme conditions, you can also climb the Mont Cesaire (trail 15) and descent as well. If you go uphill on a single shot, you're a GOD, it means everything. The descent is full of mud, big rocks, long grass (a bit hard to see the rocks) and roots. Furthermore, you have different mountains all around the place (I didn't try them yet). Here is a web site (in french) with the different trail's maps for the whole region (look at the last 4 maps for Val-david): http://www.pdn.ca/mage/mbk_map.html I spent one morning there and I did only a fraction of the trails. You can have a whole day of riding without taking the same trail twice.

Recommended Route:
From Highway 15 North, take exit named "Val-David" (I think it's number 76). Turn right on "Rue de l'glise" and you can park in the streets of Val-David or try to find the parking lot of Mont Csaire (I didn't find it...). Continue on the main street and you'll arrive on a paved bicycle trail. Continue on this trail (max 2 minutes) until you see a barrier on your right. It's the entrance I took to reach the trails.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Trails near Prevost (La Moc, for example), the Mont Tremblant resort and park and the "Petit train du Nord", a 200 km old railway which is now a bicycle path.

Summary:
Nice trail. Not very technical in a Bromont type sense. It does have it's challenges, but not the danger level associated with ski hill type trails. If you climb up the mountain (Cesaire) in one shot without stopping, sign up for the next Quebec Cup race and bring a camera... cuz you're gonna win! Tough climb, but nice rolling descents coming back down. Something to check out... maybe you'll come back, maybe not. At the bottom in the parking lot, they have some little teeter-totters and other built obstcles. Fun to mess around on a little bit, but if you want a challenge, drop the cement wall right next to the house!

Summary:
This XC ski area is one fun place to mountain bike. Climbing will be in order, but the downhill afterwards makes it worth it! This place was more beautiful and so well maintain, it was just beyond my expectations. I'm going back very soon. Also trails are free to ride.

Recommended Route:
Go to Val-David and follow the blue signs to the Sapiniere, and just park in back.
