Sutton-Zephyr Rail Trail

Average Rating:    (1 of 5)

No. of Reviews: 1

Abandoned rail line converted to a rail trail. Not well maintained. Motorized vehicles are banned (except snowmobiles), but illegal use has caused severe "roller coaster" effect and loosened surface. The point mapped is the notherly end of the trail, located at its intersection with Catering Road 0.25 km from Dalton Road at SW'ly corner of Sutton District High School. Summary:
Not worth the effort. Scenery is nice and that's about it. Trail descriptions do not include the two bridges near the Sutton end that have gates blocking access causing one to lift the bike over the barracades to continue. At the Hwy 48/Revaenshoe end the trail is impassible due to a culvert washout. Plastic culvert is floating on the east side of the swam and unless you want to wade through a big gash that's opened in the trail you can't continue. Trail used by 4 wheelers that have ripped up the surface causing the gravel to become loose. This trail is not maintained and is basically just a skidoo trail.

Other recommended trails in the same area:

Go to Blackwater on Hwy 12 and pick up the Trans Canada trail going west to Uxbridge or east to Lindsay. Well maintained and safe.
