Huron Natural Area

Average Rating:    (4.5 of 5)

Dirt based, a little rooty, a little sandy, a lot marshy, single and double tracks around the old Williamsburg Mill Ponds, easy going and quiet, good for lunch time rides if you work in the area.

Heyyy - this is better than I thought. Got round to exploring it a bit more now that the killer mosquitoes are gone for the season. Lotsa, lotsa trails all over the place, lotsa singletrack, twisty and stuff, lotsa tight trails made for enduro motorcycling in the forest. Use the fields for transitions only, stay in the forests. Really big woodlot, goes from Bleams, to Westmount, to Huron. Can be marshy in spots, but if you want something old school that's real fast for XC, this is terrific. Good climbs, descents, good for all skills. Problem is, every bubble-headed jackanape these days wants freeride, whether they can ride it or not, so most of you will probably loathe this place, just like you think H.Watson sucks. Tough luck. If you live in Brigadoon area, Doon or Pioneer Park, take the trail off Kilkerran Crescent (off-a-Biehn), turn left at the weir and follow out to Huron Rd., then up the big dirt mound and into the HNA. Gotta get more people out to run the trails in, they're tough to find sometimes. Needs work, but what the heck, eh? Good if you get bored riding H.Wat, H.Val, Chic, & D.Trac.

Recommended Route:
No necessity right now to follow a specific route, but that will change pretty soon probably. Watch out for motorcyles (listen, actually). Parking on McBrine (Jerry's Canteen), Washburn, Trillium - if you can't ride out. Small tire dump out near Portuguese club best avoided in summer unless you want malaria, but I think doing clockwise, expanding, then diminishing loops around the place is best, come to think of it.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Fast XC, trail riding: Homer Watson (better'n ever), Hidden Valley, Chicopee, Dryden Tract
