Crystal Balls

Average Rating:    (5 of 5)

Crystal Balls is the name of the lines you can ride on the massive, jagged rock outcroppings beside crystal falls; short but sweet section with several choppy rock roll-in moves and rooty rock roll-ins; lines pretty much demand advanced dh skills; at the bottom is the lookout over the bottom part of the falls and several spots to jump into a nice pool, bottom pool is shallow(no diving)

Trail Directions
go to hiawatha highlands; start in on 2K loop; halfway take the wide, sandy downhill pitch; go down then up a hard sandy uphill; at top there is a large intersection, go right; go down the flat straight stretch and stay right all the way; about two minutes from that big sandy uphill you will hit crystal creek and the top of crystal falls; Crystal Balls is the gnarly, rock section directly beside the falls, going down about 80 foot stretch of rock outcroppings
Trail Length
short but oh so sweet

Crystal Balls is probably the hardest and sickest dh descent at Hiawatha; nothing else down here (that has trail cut on it anyway) even compares; section is basically hardy descent on several very rough rock-roll-in sections; not for inexperienced riders; scout the descent first so you don't piss off possible hikers coming up on the rocks, and so you know where your line is; there are some hidden trials moves you need to find if you want to do the whole section top to bottom without killing your flow or having to stop and walk back up;this line overall is awesome if you are looking for solid dh run while at the x-country meca of hiawatha

hiawatha has tons of fun x-country bike trails if that's your thing; if dh/freeride is your thing, and you're in the soo, take the twenty minutes it takes to ride the loop up to and down Crystal Balls OR can make your own trails; The soo has tons of rugged freeride terrain but not alot of it has been explored yet
