You ride beside the old Welland Canal, throught forest and open plains. You will experience, downhills, uphills, flat land, all comprised of sand, graval, and rocks. It is an easy trail, but in certain area you meet up with really good uphill and downhill trails. A favorite hill is called Cardiac Hill.
Take 406 North, and take the Westchester exit. When you come to the stop sign, make a right. At the next set of light(Glendridge) the trail starts at the bottom of the hill.
Summary: Fantastic local riding! This year i have ridden here every week. I am from niagara falls, so it is only a short drive. There is a lot of trail in the area, and it is no problem at all putting together a 30+km ride. You can find many good climbs. The trails offer a nice variety of terrain. Some doubletrack, incuding the gravel along the twelve mile creek. but most of it is singletrack, and good stuff at that. There are great decents. At speed, they are good enough to test the skills of your average riders. There are some roots, and some rocks in places. There is also much NEW singletrack that has been cut in the last year or two. IT is SO tight and twisty, just incedible riding. I am so lucky to be so near it. Also, as others have mentioned, one can have fun at the brock campus as well. However, the trails are not marked (outside of the bruce) so you may find it helpful to find a group or a guide to ride with.
Recommended Route: Start at the Burgoyne bridge. You can park downtown, take the small bridge over the highway, and hit the gravel path, and you are on your way.
Liberty! bicycles put on an awesome local race series this year (2006) It is made up mostly of this new tight singletrack i speak of. It is marked with signs (red arrows on white). The course is about 15km, and is awesome for the series, and local cycling in general.
Other recommended trails in the same area: The Squeezer course is in this area. Also, in nearby Niagara Falls, i often ride the trails at queenston/firemans park.

Summary: This is a good fun section. Combined with Shorthills Park, a very good ride. Lots of ups and downs, and a couple of solid descents. I grew up in Alberta, and yes compared to the West coast it is not as tough, but it is good, well maintained, free trail. I remember you Byron. You don't think its good, thats funny, you weren't a very good rider from what I recall!
Recommended Route: Start at the Bottom of Tremont Dr. Ride up the road and where the road ends the trail begins
Other recommended trails in the same area: Shorthills Provincial Park

Summary: pretty easy but fun
Recommended Route: short hills is all right but what I said about the gorge being crazy tecnical is a joke. after riding the shore for a summer anything in niagara is a joke. Does every one know about the downhill at the end of decey falls right after the turn to the dyke. That would be an extremely easy section on an easy shore trail
Other recommended trails in the same area: short hills
