Weekend Warrior Summary: Lots of variety for beginner and intermediate riders. The trails are well maintained. But there is only 16 km of them (published).
So there are some nasty sections, but overall the place is just moderate fun stuff.
I still give it a 5 overall for first time fun. I'll be back.
Recommended Route: The only hard aerobic part is climbing the hill, and all the trails are on top of the escarpment.
Extreme trail if you want some danger. Couple of stupid bits (natural selection hehe).
Other recommended trails in the same area: halton hills, but I haven't been.

Weekend Warrior Summary: I never found myself winded when riding at Kelso unless you're climbing the ski hill. That's what I like about it - you don't have to kill yourself with climbs there. A place like Durham with long ups and large open patches of sand and will test your stamina but not Kelso. Short ups and downs and a pretty easy ride with few technical spots along the way make Kelso a nice place if your wanting to play it safe. It's also pretty well shaded on hot summer days and just enough trail for nice handful of hours.
fyi, during my first ride there I accidentally found myself on a hiking trail (sorry!) and it turned out to be pretty good. Looks of rocks and roots and a nice view of the escarpment. I respect the rules but I'm just saying that you could easily find yourself on it if you're not paying attention.
All in all, while the challenge isn't great, the fact of the matter is that Kelso doesn't have to be a challenge in order to have a fun time. A solid 4 in my books. Recommended Route: Sankes & Ladders & Fire are fast but ultimately short downhill rides.
The Quarry is an easy ride and a warmup for the rocky trail (I think its called Extreme but it isn't very extreme) Other recommended trails in the same area: Hilton Falls if you liked the few tech spots of Kelso

Cross Country Rider Summary: Overall Kelso is a nice place to go to get some quality riding done. Coming from St.Catharines I drive about an hour on the weekends to Kelso for something different.
They Charge 7.00 a day now for mountain bikes, which is way to much for the amount of trails. You can pretty much do most of the loops in about 4 hours. A good price point would be 3-4 dollars. The trails are kept pretty well, and unlike Short Hills and other places it dosen't have a lot or ruts that collect rain water and the trails are still pretty good after it rains (so you won't be covered in mud).
Things to watch out for are, a lot of kids and younger "freeRiders" are on the extreme trail. Sometimes they hang out and just watch their friends do log jumps and things in the middle of the trails. I almost ran straight into a kid (being like 6,4 200 pounds) the kid was like 12 and I had to swerve and do some tricky riding to avoid him. If I crashed into him I would of seriously hurt the kid, there should be area's that say no stopping especially at the bottom of twisting downhills.
Recommended Route: Start at the Ski station for sure, that first big climb is a nice start to the day and gets your blood pumping. From there just ride, it's impossible to get lost because it's so small. Other recommended trails in the same area: Short Hills

Weekend Warrior Summary: Good flat-ish singletrack. Some single track on the south side is more technical, some is much easier. A bit of everything and everything is ridable. One problem with the single track is in the fast sections there are little switchbacks or terrain it tends to be just very very flat.
The downhill is great, about 4 good jumps comming down the mountain that are very fun, high speed, some steep angles and some less demanding stuff, its possible to go alternate routes if you dont want to do jumps.
Limited amount of "shore" stuff, i think there is about two tiny sections of wood ladders but at least its there. Recommended Route: Try them all!!
