Summary:
Ouch. Mr. Grower, a.k.a. Weekend Warrior, sure does have an axe to grind with the cycling hordes. I find it hard to believe that the 18" wide trails winding through a massive forest pose a risk of the sort of devestation that is suggested by Grower. Don't get me wrong. I'm interested in low impact riding in an effort to reduce erosion, but ease up on the subjective judgement please WW. I believe that we all have equal right to enjoy the forest in the way that we deem to be situational palitable. And hold off on the blanket name calling. Mountain bikers are not what I would call arrogant. Isn't that like calling all black people thieves? Anyway, the trails are great. Come and enjoy and don't be put off by high-brow folks who consider their expression of enjoyment as better than others. And if you do wish to distance yourself from the bikers, make use of the God granted gift given to most bipeds and go off-piste.

Recommended Route:
It doesn't matter, you're bound to get lost. Bring trail mix.

Summary:
The Glen Major TRCA site is a huge resource. I've walked and skiid it for more than 25 years. Springs bubble from the ground, birds sing, trees grow. I've stopped and read under a blooming abandoned apple orchard, and been entranced by the hum of the zillions of bees. And then the mountain bikers came.

In my (substantial) experience, bikers are about as arrogant a lot as they come. The collective perspective seems to be that since they like being outside and use muscle power as locomotion they are in some sense blessed and deserving of awe.

Many is the time I've been walking a trail (one that I've walked long before the bikes came), peacefully, only to hear the shouting that passes for conversation between biking companions. Then they whizz past, without the remotest consideration of others on the path (we're not on bikes, you see). They'll kill someone one day.

When I first began exploring the site, it was often torn up by all-terrain vehicles and dirt bikes. They're gone, thank god. But I see the multiplying trails, the gouges through the forest and on the hillsides, and I know that what we have now is just about as bad.

I was there first. I'm going to stay. Don't expect me to be happy with the destructive invasion.

Yea, I made these trails with help. We need more new trails here to make this area better & better! To bad the ramps were removed by the conservation guys. Do you know how much work that was! This is still a great place to ride!

Recommended Route:

Summary:
Still the best in southern Ontario after everthing is said and done. I still keep coming back here on a regular basis after 4 years. These trails may not be the coolest, toughest, scariest, or the most fashionable; but they pass the test of time, and I really miss riding them if I haven't had the chance for some time. These trails simply lure you back time after time without getting you bored. Perhaps it's the scenery, the rhythmic flow, the distances you can ride, the fun factor, or they were built by some passionate mountain biker...I don't know...but I call this place "HOME" after having ridden almost everything else that Ontario has to offer. It is a great XC riding place. I have ridden Hardwood Hills, Kelso, Hilton Falls, Waterdown, Don Valley, Mansfield, Dagmar, Haliburton Forest, Kalapore, Ravenshoe, Inglewood, just to name a few. All those places are nice, and have their special character, but Durham/Glenn Major is a place for everyone, anytime, good general riding where you will find a little bit of everything. It's the largest riding area around, which means you can carve out a new riding route every time. New trails are sprouting up all the time, making it a further bonus to ride. But be warned. Many of the trails are unmarked and difficult to find, leaving the newbies to settle for the basic and not too interesting double track forest roads (as mentioned in reviews by a few "inexperienced" trail finders). A long term "jewel" destination.

Recommended Route:
Trails are not really marked, so ride with a group ride or someone who knows the trails. Good single-track is well hidden enough to be difficult to find. Some fairly good local maps available, but not all trails are listed.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Dagmar is also worth a ride next door. It has an admission fee.

Summary:
I thought this was a classic example of some fine Ontario riding. I personally don't require crazy downhills or logs, just decently challenging trials with beautiful scenery. Uxbridge doesn't dissapoint! I agree with the majority of people here that it would be good to ride with someone who know the area or have a compass handy. Great rides availible here.

Recommended Route:
JD, if you don't calm the $%&! down, i'm gunna get in my car and drive down that trail and give you something to REALLY complain about. If your so upset i suggest calling that environment friendly president of yours, i'm sure he hates bikes too!! They don't burn oil. Get a grip man.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Nothing to note.
