Mostly beginner/intermediate single track with some fun up/down hill sections and some great new stuff (2000). Split up by roads but still very fun!!!

Hwy 2, across causeway bridge. Up the hill to Fort Henry, pass the gravel parking lot on top of the hill, go down the other side of the road to the small parking lot and follow the obvious single track trail through the fence. On trail, pass a beach, turn left on the road, then right to the dead end and at HWY 2, turn right and cross over about 75 meters east.

Summary:
Bad news: this popular, easily-accessed and fun trail system may no longer be available. Last fall, a housing developer began clear-cutting 62 hectares of forest that included the trails north of Highway 2. On March 22, 2006, the Department of National Defence announced that it would be closing access to the trails south of Highway 2 (between Fort Henry and the water treatment plant). Here is a brief extract from the Kingston Whig Standard:

Local News - Wednesday, March 22, 2006 @ 07:00

Kingston’s only inner-city trail system has been closed to the public over safety and security concerns by the Department of National Defence.

The head of the more than 20-kilometre trail system, which rests on the border of Fort Henry and CFB Kingston, was permanently fenced off last fall to discourage bikers, walkers and runners from entering base training areas, said Lt.-Col. Dave MacLeod.

News of the move was met by sadness yesterday from many of the mountain biking groups that regularly ride the trails, but MacLeod said the move was necessary to maintain the security of the military’s training areas and the safety of soldiers and the public.

“Frankly, it’s not a park it’s a DND facility and it has to be secured,” MacLeod said in an interview.

Recommended Route:
The Whig article tantalizes by saying that "It’s unlikely the military will prosecute trespassers, but [MacLeod] said [bikers] will probably be escorted off the property if caught." I guess the new route starts with a fence-climb...

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Collins Bay/Taylor Kidd

Summary:
great trails, if you think they are too short, do the loops backwards, they are loads of fun..
better ioverall than collins bay because conditions are better and you will be riding for longer
if you find the right trails your will have jsut as much trouble conquering them as collins bay
my favorite trail in kingston

Recommended Route:
Skip the trail from the parking lots, navigate your way through the village beside the lot, take all right turns except go straight at Cassino road and you will find your way to a dead end where the trails start, the parking lot trail is a waste and is way better if you go in backwards take the right trail, get to a clearing hit the midget jump go left upa hill find the next loop do taht once or twice then take a left at the end take this trail up find a rocky road, watch out, lotsa military in the next loops you might be asked to move on, go right if you acn find your way and take a trail across the highway, take the first trail on the left of the highway taht you find, if you find yourself ina farmers field consider yourself lucky, the other entrance to the trails is less interesting, there are lots of loops and trails just past the farmers field which itself is not short of a trail if you go the right way..watch out in these trails too , more military at times, but the hardest stuff in the fort henry trails is over here somewhere,

Other recommended trails in the same area:
If this is too dry a ride or too easy head to Collins Bay

Summary:
Once you cross over HWY 2 into the system of trails to the north, explore. There's some wicked winding trails hidden in there.

Weaknesses:
Once I ended up in the middle of a farmer's field. odd...

Summary:
Decent single-track with some nice sections you can really rip through once you know the trail. A few drops here and there but nothing too crazy.

Don't get off your bike for the hill across the stream by the marina. Just crash through the stream and grind it. The first time you get up without clicking out is sweet.

Collins Bay trails.
