Don Valley

A variety of paved bike routes and single track trails. To the east (Taylor Creek) there is a route under the hydro towers. Heading south from Don Mills Rd is a paved route on the east side of the Don River. On the west side of the river is a nice single track suitable for beginners. In the west hillside bordering on Leaside are a number of trails that are hard packed clay, off camber and fairly difficult in spots. Consider this area intermediate or tougher still if the route is wet.
There is a very VERY real possibility that the city of Toronto is going to
put in a skills park for us to plow around in. What we need though is for
the community to come together as a whole, and tell them we want it, and
what we want in it! Thats right, the riders get a HUGE say in what goes
into this park!
SO!
GO HERE: http://www.dropmachine.com/skills_park
Fill out the form, and show Toronto that you want this park! This is a huge
stepping stone, and if we can come together and make this happen it means a
VERY good chance of a whole bunch of parks opening up all over the place!
TELL EVERYONE YOU KNOW to fill this out. This INCLUDES parents, XC riders,
BMXers, DH and Freeriders, and anyone else that can benefit from this park.
This is our chance to come together and REALLY make a change in the riding
scene in Ontario. Don't let this slip away. Remember, Vancouver started
small too, and look where they are now.

Summary: So I think you'll be able to find a trail map whey you get there. There are a few entrances.
Recommended Route: If you start at the trail head, you'll have a nice winding grunt ride up followed by some sweet up and down.
Then just turn around for more of the same with variations. (There are some spots that you just can't pedal up) Just make sure you make it to the ridges!
So I'm new to the ladders and ridges but there is a great series of them closer to the north end (ridge valley). Close to eglinton (I think). These are definitely not for the faint of heart. But at least there is always the bail out route if you chicken out. Couple of them are like 2x4s, What the hell!
Other than that, there are no big rocks, only roots to worry about when its wet.
For downtown TO, it kicks ass! heck decent no matter the location.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Have yet to try Glen Major.

Summary: This is a decent trail considering that it is in the middle of Toronto. It is not overly steep or technical but there are some obstacles that will test your talents. Does not compare to BC but not bad considering.

Summary: * Summary
This was my first time XC riding and I didn't know what to expect. Surprisingly, it went rather well and it was fun. I'm definitely adding this trail to my weekend rides when time permits.
* Paths
Paths split off in a web. No matter where you are, you're bound to find more than 2 ways to travel. Lots of choice and exploration possibilities.
* Challenges
There were some slopes that I didn't build up enough speed to climb, so I had to work like a pack mule pulling myself up there. They're pretty steep, ranging anywhere from 45 - 60 degree climbs in short bursts. Usually they're accompanied by a downhill ride or a straight away, so you need to plan ahead. There were plenty of challenges like outgrown roots, logs, branches and other debris all along the paths. I highly recommend a good fork if you're going to play here. There were also the occasional ramps and bridges setup.
* Exercise
It's very energetic. If you keep the pace, you'll build your cardio and mussels quite well. Fresh air, plenty of slopes, lots of bouncing, and plenty of debris make this an excellent exercise.
* People
When I went (Sat. Afternoon in early May), there weren't many people there and I was able to ride at my own leisure. Of those that I met, they were friendly. Everybody is everybody's friend there. We all cracked jokes passing by and we all respected each other and their space.
Recommended Route: I don't recommend any route because any one will do! XC riding is all about exploring, so go explore! The place is just one big web, any access point will do. Once you're in, welcome to the fun!
I do have other recommendations though:
1) Do not ride on the railroad! It is not only used, but it is illegal.
2) Do respect the wildlife and others. Keep the trail clean and litter free. This park is after all a conservation area and without it you'll be breathing in more diesel fumes and exhaust.
3) If you broke something, fix it or remove it. Don't leave some broken ramp laying around for some poor soul to crash and burn over it.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Edward Gardens & Area - ? Level
- Never been there, but heard it was good. Supposedly this trail links into it.
The Sherwood Park - Novice Level
- Has some simple slopes, mostly smooth terrain with some rooty areas, and a spacious path. There's a nice little wooden slope installed on the stairways near the entrance if you want to try climbing up it (intermediate level).
East Don Park - Novice - Intermediate - Advance Level
Mostly large gravel/rocky roads with some dirt trails. Some tech has been setup there (ramps & bridges). I've seen some BMX riders do crazy stunts off into the ravine. There's also an ungodly huge dirt hill that you can either climb or blast down.
Thornhill - Novice Level
This placed is laced with hidden gems. Don't expect XC riding here, but it's got some nice scenery here and there. Travel through glades, some dirt trails, a running stream, and some very steep climbs when returning to the surface. The trails are grouped together in small patches. You'll need to take a side road to connect to another trail, but it's not to bad. Some trails don't have paths connected, so you'll need to rough it out in the bush or glade.
