Caledon Trailway (rail trail)

Flat! What would you expect from an abandoned railway line? But a long interesting ride with lots of scenic views, maps (info boards) and points of interest along the way. It is great for a 2 to 4 hours endurance ride. Plan to stop at Caledon East for refreshment. We often ride there and stop for breakfast, then ride back. It is about 40 km one direction and crosses a lot roads. Former crossing-hazard Highway 10 is now spanned by a trail bridge. This is a multi-use (bikers, hikers and horses, motorized vehicles prohibited) well maintained trail great for bikers and hikers and is outstanding for kids. Surface is smooth and hard. Kilometre 0 (see map) is at the end of Bricklane Rd. (Watch for poison ivy here.) Trail extends to Tottenham, but portion in New Tecumseth (N. of Hwy 9) has looser sandier surface.

Trail Directions	This old railway line crosses all of the township grid roads in both orientations. Kilometre 0 is at the end of Bricklane Rd in Terra Cotta (see map). The trail passes through Cheltenham, Inglewood (Ice cream stop), East Caledon, Palgrave, ending in Tottenham. It crosses Highway 10 at Glen William Cons. Area, Airport Rd at Caledon East, Highway 50 at Palgrave, and ends at the South Simcoe Steam Rail Terminal in Tottenham.
