Very firm doubletrack x-country ski trails with numerous single track sections veering off along the way. Weave in and out from one to the other thru lovely mixed forest. Work thru the single track then exit onto the double to get cooled off! Warm-up hut/shelter and comfort stations at various junctions. Trails exceptionally well maintained ( met owner out with leafblower cleaning trails one day!!) with trails for every skill level. Campground and store nearby.

15K loop of hard-packed double track ski trails connected to a series of 17 singletrack sections of varying length and difficulty. Lots of choice here, with singletrack ranging from fast and smooth, to downright nasty! Beginner sections include: Eager Beaver, Border Run,Pine Pitch, Short&Sweet. Intermediate sections include: Cliffhanger, Moose Mayhem,I'll Be Buck, Bad Pit, Missing Link, Loam Rider etc. More difficult technical and fitness singletrack includes: Bear Bluff, Do Drop In, Toad Twister, Weasel, and Spur Line. Beautifully maintained trails featuring bridges, rocks, mud, roots and water for those who enjoy the more serious side of the sport; but still offer plenty of beginner style riding to.

Summary:
A well maintained trail system made up of a variety of difficulty levels and lenghts. They all connect back onto main fire roads. All were a great ride but a little short before you have to connect back to the fire road. Some nice canadian shield rock trails.

Summary:
OMG! Does X-Country riding get any better than this? I'm sure not! Wow, wow, wow! Hats off to the folks at Buckwallow. I recently got back from Moab, Utah, and I can honestly say that some of the trails (#16, for example) are as good as any sections I rode in Moab, including the Slickrock Trail and Porcupine Ridge. Of course, you can't beat the views in Moab, but that's another story...

Anyhow, Buckwallow rocks! Thank you for a great afternoon of riding!

Recommended Route:
Do everything! But those five-hoof loops are really, really hard. Too much for me. But gimme a four-hoof loop and I'll play all day! Great slickrock-like challenges. Love it, love it, love it! Also check out #11 and I think #13?

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Three Stage, Hardwood Hills, Don Valley, Albion Hills

If only I lived closer!
What a whack load of fun this place is.

Agreed with all posts about the great condition maintenance and layout of the trails.
My only complaint is that they are too short! Thats probably cause I'm having a blast.

Recommended Route:
They're all good but short.

Summary:
Its almost two hour drive to this trail from my house, but well worth it. The drive home can seem pretty long though, so you may want to check the KOA Campground next door and get a couple days in.

They greet you when you arive, give you a pass for $7 each and a map. Double track "freeways" extend from top to bottom with trails of various skill levels veering off. Everything is signed and coincides nicely with your map. Trail names like Moose Mayhem, Bad Pitt, I'll be Buck, West D'nile and Do Drop In (toughest) mark the entrance. If it doesn't have a sign, your're riding it backwards, but that seems to be OK too. Hoof prints on the sign and map indicate difficulty. Soon you find yourself saying "Oh, that's a three hoofer" or "A four hoofer, awsesome!"

The terrain is technically challenging. There are no huge climbs. Riding over rock faces is sooo fun and after banging your cranks squeezing through rock openings, you soon learn to modify your riding style slightly and "rachet" your pedals. All trails are fairly brief , dumping you back onto the main trail, where you stop and laugh, have a sip, slap each other on the back and hit another run. Its a full day of this, on superbly maintained trails, well thought out with technical flow throughout. If you're getting tired, hit the easier trais, which really flow! If you're really tired, head back to the parking lot, where you are encouraged to bring your lunch. Atmoshere is very laid back and you will probably talk to fellow bikers, or owner Mike, who will always come over to get your opinion of his work. He's super laid back, but obviously meticulous as his trails and even his change room/outhouse attest. They are the cleanest I've ever seen. When I questioned Mike as to the lack of offensive odour, he gave me a detailed account of how he takes care of that. Of course, I have little knowledge or memory of his techniques.

This is some of the best trail riding I've experienced. At the end of the day, ask Mike where to go for a cooling swim. He can help you with that too. If you like bikes and burrito's try the Mexican restaurant (can't remember the name) just on the northern edge of Gravenhurst on the way back from Buckwallow.

Recommended Route:
Hit trails like Moose Mayhem, Toad Twister, Weasel and especially Do Drop In earlier in the day when your energy levels are higher. I fell fairly hard on the rocks of West D'Nile on the last ride of the day. Even some double track like Mohawk Trail can be challenging. Its fast and rocky, but really fun. Loam Rider may be my favorite for rocks with flow. This is intermediate level and above. Children won't have much fun, due to limited gears, nerve and power. I took my 11 year old niece, who was disappointed and hindered our ability to ride the tougher trails. This was my fault. I thought she could handle most of it, so if you have child or friend who is new to the sport, don't ask too much of them by taking them here.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Porcupine Ridge - Buckwallow on steriods - advanced technical - less flow, but very fun. Go on a cool to warm day, because you will work hard.

Summary:
lots of variety here. You start out on a wide road and get a little worried that it's gonna be nice and easy 'bike path' riding.....but that quickly changes. Great maps and layout of the park and good signage. Really hard to get lost in here. I hit it up in July and the black flies were real bad out in the sun.....in the bush they weren't too bad. Definitely put in the bash ring if youa re gonna try some of the harder trails.....I didn't and demo'd my alum outer ring...all natural obstacles....some wicked rock lines...and some real tight switchbacks....owners/staff are super friendly too. Def. worth a trip up here....make it a weeknd!

Other recommended trails in the same area:
porcupine ridge...
