Fast, 700+feet of vertical. Rocky in sections. Tight in some areas. Lots of good fun riding. Not for the beginner
From Collingwood, follow grey rd. 19 until it starts to climb up the escarpment. As it goes up the hill, watch for where the Bruce trail comes out of the forest on the right. At this point there is an unmarked road on your left. Take this road to the left until the end. At the end there is parking and the great riding is just further down the old road about a km.
Summary: My wife and I just returned from an Ontario mtb camping trip and Three Stage was one of the many trails we rode. First of all, go to Kamikaze Bike Shop in Collingwood for help. Their staff are incredibly friendly and will sell you a map of the trails. Secondly, bring a compass in here. I have never got lost on the trail, but ended up following a local and getting terribly turned around along the atv roads. I was stuck in a downpour and barely got out before dark. Serves me right for blindly following a local and then trying to follow their directions out. Two locals gave me directions and I became increasingly lost due the complex web of trails in here. Anyhow, there are some nice loops and some fantastic technical sections, if you can find them (and not get lost). A warning: the map is four years old and is almost useless.
Recommended Route: Enter at the 2nd Line Road and either go down the fire road at its end and go left at the first trail, or take the woods to the fire road and cut straight across. Stay left to get to some awesome technical, very slow downhill. WIcked, though, wicked. The uphill on this tricky technical section with tight turns and rock gardens is also awesome.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Hardwood Hills, Kelso, Albion Hills, Buckwallow (some of the world's best!!! Wahoo!!!)

Summary: 3-Stage is one of the toughest XC biking trails in the area. It has lots of tight, roller-coaster, rocky and rooty singletrack; yet has wide, muddy doubletrack (thanks to our ATV friends). For the most part, a third lung is recommended, as you never will be traveling on a flat surface while you are in the trail system. You are always climbing or descending a hill.
If you are a beginner, stay away. You could hurt yourself pretty badly in here, if you do not have at least some type of experience. There are better trails for you just 10-15 minutes away (see: other trails in the same area).
It is also extremely easy to get lost in here, as there is no signage, yet lots of routes/forks in the trails. I suggest picking up a sem-accurate map at an LBS in Collingwood, such as Kamikaze. But keep in mind, there are a lot more side trails than what is on the map. However, you can also go onto the Eastern Canada forums on MTBR, and there are very accurate GPS 3-Stage maps made by other people (thanks, Pinkheadedbug!).
But, the bottom line is that 3-Stage is an AWESOME, yet challenging set of trails. There is always something new to see and explore for the intermediate, yet tough enough to challenge even the most veteran mountain bikers. It is very much worth a trip, because you'll have a lot of fun, but you'll be exausted at the end of the day!
Bring: MAP, Band-Aids, Water (truckloads of it), Food, Spare Lung, etc.
Recommended Route: There are so many different routes, there is something for everyone. Rarely, if you so choose to, you will never travel the same trail twice. But, the Bruce Trail is nearby for those really good riders, who are looking for a challenge.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Kolapore Uplands (10 mins away), Loree Forest (15 mins away), Hardwood Hills (1 hr 10 mins away), Collingwood (Crushed Limestone) Trail Network (15 mins away)

Summary: 3-Stage offers a lot of technical riding that will fill your day and leave you pretty worn out! Some of the rocky sections are fantastic and offer a nice slow technical ride for a full-body workout! I would definetly recommend picking up a map as it will really help you figure out the mess of trails that are there.
Beginners would have issues here, more for intermediate and advanced riders.
Recommended Route: Take the Diamond and Double Diamond routes when possible :)
Other recommended trails in the same area: Kolapore Uplands (only about 10 minutes away)

Summary: It's a blast. For mapping needs see the local bike shops...
Recommended Route: Any route.. Just remember water! Start at the parking area up top near the 3rd line, follow the service trail road down. Carry on past the yellow gates and take a sharpe left into the forest. Follow the trail down to "pantie hill" and climb up and out. Stay to your right (east) and keep climbing. You should finish out at the road across from the Bruce trail access. Ride back on the road or turn around, stay up top and ride back out to the parking area near the 3rd line.

Summary: Great new trails that allow you to mix and match depending on how much time you have. Still may favourite place which I ride at least twice per week. The local bike shops are Kamikaze and Squire John's. Both have excellent guys working the wrench's. Most trails are for intermediate to experienced riders. The area is not well marked which adds to it's appeal.
Recommended Route: From Duntroon, head North towards Nottawa. Turn west on West Church side road and Park on the S bend or the snowmobile parking lot. Take a nice warm up on the river trail and back, then head up the bruce trail for a good long climb (lots of short steep climbs). Keep heading up the singletrack till you get near the parking lot at the top. From here you can explore all of the new trails for a while. Try the technical trail southwest of the gate. After playing around up top it's time for a fly down the singletrack back to the parking lot and a cold Corona.
Other recommended trails in the same area: For an Epic Ride, start at the top of Duntroon and go to the top of 3 Stage and back again. The trail right off of Duntroon sideroad is closed to bikers so go 1 sideroad over to the North, this area is crown land.
