A friend who rides dirt bikes introduced me to this area. While not very technical in terms of more extreme trails (ie: Fortune & MO), there is a lot of variety to keep things quite interesting. While I find dirt bikes noisy and smelly, they are a blessing in disguise in that they keep the trail from over growth and they make some really nice berms. They kind of hurt themselves in that the trail is so tight they really can't open up the throttle (good for bikers). While 8km doesn't sound like a long loop, it takes me 50 minutes to do and I'm fairly quick. The reason it takes long is due to the climbing (multiple 20-30ft elevation changes) and the tighness. There are sections however that I feel like I'm in a dual slalom event (never actually did one but I've seen pictures of their berms and we have a pretty similar setup on some setions). The area is predominantly sand and the trails are almost exclusively on high ground making for virtually no mud (very cool considering our recent wet Canadian summer)
Email me if you want to join up for a ride, connecting the trails involve some fireroads (a few fundred meters) which can be a little tricky. This section will grow with time as the area is absolutely huge.
Take 416 to Oxford Station exit (2 south of Kemptville). Go through Oxford Station (west of 416). When the road makes a 'T' junction (actually continues to the right) take a left. Continue for 5 minutes, the road will take another right turn and you'll see signs to LimeRick Forest. Take the first left (gravel road) into LimeRick Forest. Continue for about 5 minutes, you'll drive through a large clearing (old lake bed?) and back into the wood. Within a few hundred meters after the clearing, you'll see an old small gravel pit on your left. Park there. The trail starts in the gravel pit and runs parallel in a southern direction for another 100 meters. Plan on 50 minutes from Ottawa.
Summary: I commute to work everyday, so my weekend mtb I really look forward to. I finally made it up to Limerick forest last month. Highly recomended! Lots of banked curves, sandy base ( nice after a rain ) and a welcomed change from BrockTel route which is HIGHLY technical, at least for me.
Recommended Route: East or West side of gravel pit, it's all good, give yourself a couple of hours and have fun
Other recommended trails in the same area: BrockTel in Brockville, very technical, wonderful workout. I like scaring the motorists on the 401 riding the edge of a 15 foot drop that will place you next to Eastbound traffic.

Summary: I recommend spending half the day touring the north end of the forest and the other half riding around the pit. Windshield hill is a must for both horseback riders, bikers and 4-wheelers!
Recommended Route: The north end of the forest is very interesting. Also the pit and windshield hill.
Other recommended trails in the same area: I recommend staying waay from the old school house if you are on horseback, due to a rather large bees nest (I know this from personal experience). Same goes for the north side of the big pit.

Summary: Limmerick forest has many, many KMs of fire road doubletrack to explore, but the fun stuff is the 10 KM of singletrack near the pit. It was cut by friendly motocrossers and is very tight. Lots of turns, mostly bermed and quick transitions into climbs/decents. The forest is sandy and can be slow after a long dry spell. A couple of the hills are way to loose to climb so be prepared to hike a bit. The place is loosy with poison ivy so know what to look for when you do get off your bike (Leaves of three, find somewhere else to pee). This is a really, really fun area to ride and can be a great workout both physical and technical at speed or a failry relaxed ride if you take it a little easier. The fire roads are great palces to take beginers too.
Recommended Route: Ride the loop clockwise, starting from the gravel pit. If you follow thw orange tape you can do the 10 KM that our group trains on.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Brock-Tel, MacIntosh Mills (Triangle X-C Ski Club)

Ridden Trail: Once a week

Summary: Tech Singletrack - Trail goes through the hardwood part of the forest and has some neat short climbs & descents. Has a few pedal smashing stumps and tight sections that look smaller the faster you go. Not Gatineau technical but fun for a few loops. Race Loop - This is a fun high speed, leg burning loop that we use for our race training. Can average around 20/kph if it hasn't been too dry (life-sucking sand!) Trail has fun little berms and is a combo of fire road and wide singletrack so you can go as fast as you dare. Once you get back to the top of the pit, stay right & follow the trail across the road for the rest of the fun. Fun Loop - Has some fun little hills and climbs. Loops around the pond with some muddy & rooty sections. After you make the second left onto the fireroad making a right will take you to the working gravel pit. Some neat stone/gravel piles and 20 foot drop offs if your willing. We are going to try and put in some teeter-totters, drop-offs, balance beams etc. this year for a bit more technical. Overall, Limerick has a variety of fun, fast trails that get better the faster you go! An excellent nightriding training spot too.(No rocks!)
Recommended Route: Directions to trailhead: Get off Hwy 416 at Spencerville and take County Rd #21 west to Roebuck. Make a right at the sign "Limerick Rd" & go 5km to gravel pit on right. There are basically 3 loops @ Limerick.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Brocktel - Lot more technical due to rocks
