Snow. I'm not sure what lies under where the snow was but I've heard that it's roky and technical.
401 to Guelph line, up Guelph line about 1 or 2 km, look for small driveway on the right. I don't think that this is the official way into Hilton Falls but it's the way that we took in when we rode there in the winter and we had to ride our bikes across frozen water to get in.
Summary: This is pretty close to the textbook definition of freeriding. If you are planning on riding XC here, you will be bored or overwhelmed. Agreed there is no intermediate stuff here. Hard stuff will scare away newbies becuase it will be a lot of hike-a-bike and the double track is well, doubletrack. There s almost no doubletrack in here that isn't paved. IMO - Paved doubletrack is to take a quick break in between technical sections, and for hikers. If you like freeriding challenges... stunts, rocks, roots, bridges, jumps, skinnies, creek crossings, you name it... this is the best place for many miles in any direction. There is gobs of sweet singletrack in here. I have been riding here for 9+ years and will never get tired of it, ever.
I also don't think I have riddin it all, it's that big. I'm surprised it doesn't have a higher rating, however some overwhelmed XC folks put their 2 cents in and it is obviusly out of their league... for XC, go across the street to Kelso!
NOTES - Parking in main lot is $8 or so, season's pass available for around $80. Other entrances (not to be mentioned since it is against park policy to enter park other than through main gate) to park are free. Park is offically closed to MTB's in winter, but doesn't stop anyone. Trails are well marked, but easy to get lost on, travel with a trail map, a GPS, a cellphone or someone who's been there before or you WILL get lost.
Recommended Route: Wally and the Beav, Perry's Portage, Ridge Trail, Bent Rim, 5 Bridges, 1999, Improbable, Bog'd Up, Stunt Trail, Boy Scout Trail, Christmas Trail, Boundary Trail, they're all great.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Kelso, Puslinch, Kitchener Hydro Cut, Waterdown, Dundas Valley

Summary: This by far is my favorite trail in the area! Very technical, with rocks everywhere! Heaven! Hilton offers a lot for all different skill levels. Novice riders can party on the fun loopy stuff while the advanced and get rippin on the nasty stuff! Try the Bent Rim and all the intermediate (HA!) side trails. A lot of the Bruce Sides are fantastic fun as well.
Simply put this trail is like a full body workout! Don't get lost in the Wandering Lynx....
Recommended Route: Usually start with Bog'd Up, CM Rocks, Wally and the Beav, 5 Bridges. Party on some side Bruce trails then finish with a workout in Bent Rim.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Kelso is pretty good (not nearly as fun!), Puslinch (Twin Ponds), Hydro Cut, Guelph Lake

Summary: Fun trail with many types of trail from easy fire road (great for a family ride), to highly technical rocky Black Diamond type trails with drops & skinny's.
Recommended Route: The race course that is run durring the "All Weather Challenge" is a fun simple ride, with a mix of fast single track & some rock garderns. You can ride the whole trail without having to get off & walk across any "nasty" sections. There are some fun trails that run off of this, such as Wally & The Beave, that make for a fun diversion.
Here is a link to a map of the course:

Other recommended trails in the same area: Kelso Conservation Area is also a great ride, but when Kelso is closed Hilton Falls will always be open (due to the rockey terrain & better drainage.

Summary: Fellow riders. I see too many low reviews on this trail. All I hear is how brutal and hard it is. Too many rocks, too many roots. Well for some of us that if heaven. We love the technical trails and the more places to get hurt the better. Most of the guys I ride with are between 30 and 70 and must say that they can kick ass and burn it up better then most of you young guys. If the trails are too hard for you the just say they are brutal. Why knock them down for being too hard for you to ride. Yes I agree the trails are not marked very well for people that have not ridden there too often but once you get to know them there is nothing more challenging. I have a favorite loop that is exactly 24.5 KM's and there is very little earth under my wheels. Mostly ROCKS and ROOTS and I love it. And bye we ride about 99% and walk 1% and for the huge trees lying over the trails, did you ever think that they are supposed to be there. This is definitely a technical trail and not a cross county race track. By the way, they call it Bent Rim for a reason!
PS: The trails can not be that bad since we ride them at night as well.
Happy trails and keep the rubber side down.

Recommended Route: I start with a warm up on the double track to the entrance to the second half of Bent Rim, exit at the orange trail and then down to "WALLY AND THE BEV" , "Five Bridges", "Bog'ed Up" , "Baby Head" to
The Falls for lunch. After lunch "Ridge Trail" then a little double and single track up the orange and then the first half of "Bent Rim" backwards to "Red Oak" and exit by the "Down Hill Trail" to the Park.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Buck Wallow, Kelso, Hydro Cut, Rock Cliff

Summary: My only experience on this trail was the All weather challenge time trial put on by spokes and slopes. IMO, hilton falls is not the best place to MTB in the area. it is pretty flat. the trail is one extreme or the other. either gravel doubletrack, or ROCKS. the course was well marked for the event, but i would not want to have to navigate the trail myself, as i hear the trails are not marked well. i gotta admit it was pretty fun. i like technical riding, and would like to give it another try outside of a race. it would give me more time to just practice tough sections and improve my skills. not a place to ride often, but if you want a technical rocky challenge, check it out. I have no clue how i finished the course without a flat.
Recommended Route: Time trial course
Other recommended trails in the same area: Kelso. Much better for your typical XC rider.
