Elora Gorge Conservation Area

Fairly flat with a few hills, some more difficult than others. Once you get to the high level bridge, take the road up the hill. on the right there will be some rocks. Take the trail behind the rocks. PROCEED WITH CAUTION AS THERE IS NO FENCE ALONG THE GORGE AT ALL SPOTS. once you get to the low level bridge, cross and start up the hill, there will be a trail on the right, near the bottom of the hill. Some rocky technical spots, a couple creek crossings. In some places the trail goes through a campsite. once you come to the end, ride a long the road to the high level bridge, cross and retrace your steps.
From Toronto, take highway 401 west to Highway 6 north. Keep on Highway 6 past Guelph to County Road 7 (there is a sign for the conservation area). Take county road 7 to the lights in Elora and turn left. The conservation area is 1 or 2 kilometres down the road. (the road is a county road, I just forget the number) Once in the Conservation area, follow the signs to the picnic area. The trail starts just past here, along the Gorge. You can also get to the trail by: Once you get to the lights in Elora on County road 7, turn right and go into town. Just past the liquor store (just before the bridge) there is a large parking lot. Park here. Bike past the walking bridge (not the road bridge!) and under the factory bridge thing. Follow the road another 50m to an opening on the right. You will be able to see the river. Take the trail, down the steps and you will come to a bridge. Go under the bridge and you will be in the conservation area and on the trail.
Summary: Tthis is a trail that encircles the elora gorge. It is not always clearly marked and you need to bike along the campgrounds driveways to get by some sections. Very nice trail but not too long inside the conservation area. Its rough terrain and nice scenery is enough to kill alot of time.
Recommended Route: Either from the conservation area entrace which is on the highway just south of elora on the east side of the gorge.
or from the west side of the river in town you can go down a small trail and make your way in through a fence with a section taken out of it. enter north of the road.
Other recommended trails in the same area: havent really explored much of this are yet(maybe next year)
allthough there is a nice stretch of the avon trail i found on the north side of Hunsberger rd north of waterloo near Conestogo. close to a new subdivision of nice new houses a trail runs up a hill into a bush, across a small field and along the grand river. this is pretty technical riding and some getting off a walking, but still a worthy trail.

Summary: For information, the conservation authority has closed the pedestrian entrance to the park (at least on the south side of the river - hint, hint). I rolled up, thinking someone had closed the gate, and it turned out that they'd installed a big bit of fence. Shame we can't all get along because there was some good riding there. Frankly, except for the first little bit, you never saw walkers and you didn't see other bikers anywhere. If erosion is thought a problem, the only erosion I saw was due to walkers.

Summary: The park is open to visitors who pay the admission price. However, the trail cited, is suitable only for hiking and bikers [especially trespassing ones] will be prosecuted. You are welcome to come in the main gate and bike on the roads.

Summary: since last review. lotsa building has been going on including 3 drops, 5-8 feet high, north shore style. Keep on the lookout during the summer lots of tourists, as well as along the gorge, lots of good natural drops 3 to 15 feet. email me if ur interested in building some more shit

Summary: The conservation area has done some upgrading on the trail to make it more suitable for hiking- which sucks. All man-made bridges and stuff have been taken out, i guess they thought they were a hazard. if you venture off the trail, you will be able to find drop offs up to 8 feet, but they are pretty tough to find. Any way, still a good spot for a quick ride or some pretty sick freeriding.

Other recommended trails in the same area: The trails at Guelph Lake (kinda suck, unless you like easy single track)
