Sydney River Trail

There are a series of trails that access over 20 km of off-road terrain. The riding is a combination of old roads, farm fields, singletrack and power line. There are no severe climbs or descents and the trails are ususally dry and never muddy. The trails are quite varied in difficulty. However most of the trails are not marked, so someone familiar with the trails would have to guide you or provide a description. If you are in the Sydney area and are interested in riding this trail, call Wilf at Ramsay's Cycle and Sport, 539-1730.
The trail can be accessed from several points. For anyone attempting it without a "guide", the trail is in Sydney River, just west of Sydney along Highway 4. Find Parkwood Dr., and proceed to the very top. This will access the trail at the power line. For a guided ride, call Wilf at Ramsay's Cycle and Sport at 539-1730.
Summary: This is a great trail for all skill levels. It has a wide variety of terrain although it doesn't get very extreme but that's what I am looking for. It can be easily accessed, stays pretty dry even during wet seasons and there is a wide variety of routes which makes the trail new and fresh even for riders who go there a lot. I use this trail all year round and, although I don't ride a lot of other places, I find this trail to be the best in the Sydney area.

Ridden Trail: Once a week

Summary: This location hosted the Spanish River Mountain Bike Race in 1997. However, much of the singletrack from that course was lost due to logging and new trails have been made to replace them. If accessing the power line from Parkwood Dr., proceed up the powerline and look for trail marking on the right to enter the singletrack. However its best not to proceed unguided if you are not familiar with the area. There are extensive trails here and its easy to get lost. You will eventually see some sign of civilization and be able to exit, but you may be a long way from where you started and still be lost. Myself (Greg, 564-1854) or Wilf, 539-1730 will be glad to arrange for a ride.
Recommended Route: I put in the original trail description, but wanted to add a few notes. There is a 7 km loop that is very challenging. It is about 50% technical singletrack, the rest being powerline, farm field and woods road. Other trails are "out and back" and tend to have less variety but are just as fun.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Lots of other trails - call above numbers for info.
