everything you want; good technical section (1st 3k's) -lots of roots, nice hill all the way up, fast descent. beautiful scenery, mostly single track. fun ride.
make an overnight of it and stay at stonehame chalets, beautiful spot (web link below)
find scotsburn off pictou, or from the tc highway take lyons brook exit to pictou (follow the signs). go to the tennis courts (beside gas station) in scotsburn, parking provided. trail head is visible from the tip of the parking lot. about 1.5 hrs from halifax
Summary: Not a bad trail...a lot of different trees along trail. Very erie forest, there are a lot of ghosts in those woods. Hurricane Juan closed the trail off at the bottom of I want my Mama so I made some new single track off of the main trail so now there are new smokin fast trails, so it's not just up and down. Our club has been doing lots of work up there...world class trails being built!!
Recommended Route: After finding the ballfield, I reccommend entering from behind the tennis courts, riding the trail and taking all the new side trails, they all double back to the main trail, lots of flow going down hill, great workout going up hill.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Trenton Park, westville, Barneys, Dalhousie MTN.

Summary: Nice trails beautiful scenery at fitzpatrick and dalhousie, full or hard tail will still concour it. Summertime riding through the fire roads can be extremly hard with loose rock like ballbearings because of no rain,Overall Not very fast though, i like it when you are afraid to stop. Lately I have been riding the gatineaus, camp fortune and bruce pit here in ottawa thats fast so fast you actually can't stop, they have insane trails throughout the woods that are blazed every spring, watch out for the NCC they will take your bike before May 16th if you are riding the trails outside of Camp Fortune. i can't wait to get back and re-unite with the smell of that forest. Terrain is easy no hidden surprises besides a few trees. Best to ride in the fall or late summer before the leaves. Great place to learn as i did
Recommended Route: I acutally started Snowboarding down this in the winter, pick up speed from the chalets down and jump the road. Firt time climbing the mountain was in 94 on a 12speed...Burn. Flying down the acutal fire road was also a blast until i caught the miridian passing a buddy and slide 12meters on my side (graded cheese). However on one of the best trips was from Dalhousie mountain by Mt Diamond and traversed through single track and farmers fields up to the top of fitspatrick by the chalets and down the fire road, long day well worth it
Other recommended trails in the same area: a good park to warm up in would the one in New glasgow by the airport, nice place to rip, fun to pump the hills. Wentworth is a nice ride, even taking the trail that traverses the back of the mountain down by the explosion and connect to the google. Across the road from wentworth is also some nice riding through the Via rail access roads. Keep your heads up, Scary Fast..... Come to ottawa and explore a network of trails in the gats. Meech lake nudist colony lake phillip and hickory trail, warm up on the greenbelt of ottawa, take care

Summary: I've been out of the country for a year or so I don't know how the area or up keep is, spring is my favorite because no one has moved the deadfalls yet. A lot of clearcutting up top when I left. But by far my favorite trail ever. If you have ever come from the Millsville side and made the big hill without stopping congradulations (major lactose, I've done it only a few times)
Recommended Route: Check out the top up the Millsville Rd, when it turns to dirt turn rt on Willis Cemetary, look for signs around the few cabins (1 km from turn off) start there and you can link 2-3 kms of fast fun 4-wheeler track,
Other recommended trails in the same area: Trenton Park, Sugarloaf, the Wrandy, Martock

Summary: First time riding this with steve July 2001. Awesome! Frist 2km or so, technical but do-able in most places. Lots of ravines. Pick the right line going up these and you might make it! Its a heart pounder getting to the chalet area, but a great work out if you love hills. After the chalets you get into some nice single track through hardwood and old fields. Then the decent! Make sure your brakes work, ride hard, hang on and dont wipe out, if you do, it'll hurt! We went slow around the chalet area, multi use trail. This trail is great, challenging and fast in places.
Recommended Route: Scotsburn, entrance right hand side of the ball park, which is in behined the gas station.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Trenton Park, Weavers Mtn, Liscomb (Barren Lake)
