Trail Directions
head to Westbank from Kelowna on HWY 97 and hang a right on Bartley Rd. Proceed up Bartley onto gravel section, through small farm residential area. Park in small clearing just beyond the last house you pass near cattle gate. Ride down the road to concrete bridge over creek. Keep right at the bridge and proceed up the road approx 10 km. Single track starts to the right and continues to climb to summit and first view point of Bear Creek valley. There are several forks on the fire road up so it's best to have a copy of the map for this trail which is available at all the local Kelowna & Westbank bike shops. A good rule of thumb for the ascent is "if you find yourself going downhill, you probably made the wrong turn at the last fork". Once you're on the single track it's hard to get lost. about 2/3 of the way down the trail turns back into a fire road for about 1km. Watch for the single track to re-start to to the left, it has plank bridge that you'll see.

Summary:
Perfect cross country ride in my books! Big climb of around 2700 feet up a logging road, then rolling singletrack across the top of a high forested, sometimes rocky ridge down into to swooping turns and little chutes through trees. Nothing very technical, but the 1.5-2 or so hour long climb plus tons of classic singletrack downhill makes this a must do for a cardio minded riders.

Recommended Route:
Pretty much the same as the previous review. If you want a slightly shorter ride that only hits the singletrack downhill, you can turn right up the first logging road about 1 km. after leaving the parking area. It is a fairly steep climb off the main road, but eases off after a bit with the occasional tough section over the next few kms. After a particularly rough water damaged section of road, you will come to a junction. Either continue right (straight) for the very short version which leads you to the mini plank bridge junction on the right in a few hundred meters, or turn left to continue climbing to Hidden Lake. The Lake is around 30-45 minutes of climbing further up this road. Go around the west side of the lake on an ATV track that leads you to the singletrack about 10 minutes after leaving the lake. Turn right for the downhill back to the plank bridge junction and on to the trailhead.

Summary:
great cardio climb up the fire road. a bit long for the out-of-shapers. fast flowing downhill singletrack back to your car. Fantastic view points along the downhill. don't forget to stop and take a look as you descend along this ridge.

Recommended Route:
the fire road has about 1/2 dozen forks so either get the map from a local bike shop or bring a friend who's ridden it before so you don't get lost and miss the great descent

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Holy Pail, Rose valley Dam
