Hartland Road Dump

Average Rating:    (4.15 of 5)

No. of Reviews: 27

Trails are laid out like ski runs - green dot, blue square, and black diamond. There are clear trail markers within the system so you can keep your bearings. Even when the lot is full you're unlikely to see another rider on the trail system unless you want to. Organ Donor and Birth Control among others will test the experts while there are plenty of intermediate trails and fireroads. Remeber that an intermediate trail becomes a "black diamond" when its wet.

Trail Directions
From Victoria go north on West Saanich Road. Turn left on Hartland road and continue to the end of the road (city landfill). Immediately before the entrance to the landfill is, on the right, a parking lot for up to 50 cars with washroom and bikehose, and, on the left, the trailhead. Proceeding in from the trailhead about 50 yds. there is an open area with a covered map kiosk and a picnic table. Read the map - maps can be obtained at any bike shop in the area.

Summary:
Its basically, all Victoria has to offer. Has typical BC style trails with lots of roots and rock. On a small mountain near the city's dump, you access the trails from several different locations with the main one being the actual dump atop Hartland road there is parking and bike wash station. a minute down the power line access is the etchnical skills park with skinnies, teeter totter etc. Further down the power lines and off to the right is the hill with the majority of trails( some like Shock Treatment are further down). You ride up a fire road called the Regional Trail which branches off twice with Emergency One and Emergency Two fire roads. These lead to the various trails.
I read about Sofa King below but I believe this has been taken down due to liabilty. The more popular trails are Torpedo Run which is a fast DH trail with some drops and table tops. Whos Yer Daddy is really great and has nice berms steep drops with chicken runs and just lots of fast yet technical fun. Trillium is another all down hill run with tight switchbacks, roots and tree dodging. Skull is similar but faster. Jelly Roll and Lumpy Pants are up high and I believe are double black diamond so I dunno. Snakes and Ladders is near Torpedo and starts off with sweet twisty single track that turns into some seriously technical rock ascenting and descending , at least when its wet. Dave's Line may be my favorite as its a long meandering trail from the top down with a bit of everything including creek beds, awesome. There's plenty more that I haven't mentioned too.

Recommended Route:
The easiest way to get there is by vehicle. North from Victoria drive on Douglas then left at Burnside which turns into Interurban which ends and neets at West SaanichRd take a left here and keep north looking for Hartland road on your left. Find it and drive to the top and you are there.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
There is another network of trails close by called Partridge Hills. Its located behind Durrance Lake and accessed via its parking area. This trail network is more XC friendly as its all single track up and down.

NICE SYSTEM OF STUFF. TOO MANY LITTLE KIDS THOUGH. BE READY TO MEET UP WITH ABOUT 200 12 YEAR OLD POSERS WHO SHOULD BE AT THEIR BABYSITTERS INSTEAD OF RIDING THE TRAILS GETTING IN MY WAY. WHAT CAN I SAY, I AM AN AMAZING RIDER AND I HATE KIDS GETTING IN MY WAY.

Recommended Route:
