Downes Bowl

Average Rating:    (2.91 of 5)

The trail is fairly technical, lots of roots, and logs. If you stay on the main pathway, it is either dirt or gravel. if you want more fun, follow some of the shoots of singletrack, and you will be challenged with every imaginable technical difficulty. Except, there are not very many steep descents. Watch for mud, especially during the sping and fall.

Summary:
I dont think that this is for any GOOD RIDERS. It is good to practice climbing but thats about it. Its not technical, its not fun. Theres only one realy major decent and thats into the trail. There is one trail I do like though. Just stay on the gravel until you see this really big rock. There should be a trail beside it. Its still not that great but the first hill gives you a little bit of a thrill. It takes you right almost into a stump. Stay out of the main line on that trail.

Recommended Route:
Go to the agrec and cross the street. Or u could park your car at clearbrook elementary and go in from there

This trail is a piece of crap. Only 5 year olds would like it. There aren't to many other trails in the area. It takes a long time to get to ledgeview from downes bowl. If your intrested theres a bmx track in the ag-rec. Its pretty fun. Mountain bikes are allowed. Keep on ridin my peeps!

Summary:
As stated above, a lot of the trails end up in dead ends after a short brush with fun. The ones that aren't dead ends roll into other trails continuously until you end up at another entrance to the Bowl. Warning: at certain times of the year the trails that aren't dead ends turn into vile, black, stink-hole cess-pools like the farting pond in Labyrinth. (I freakin' hate David Bowie!) I use this trail as a traditional means of introducing new pieces of equipment to my life. Gotta go for a roll in the bowl. Classic.

Recommended Route:
There is no solid route through this place.

Ledgeview, Sumas, make your own, or play in town...

Summary:
This is agreat area for new riders or riders that are getting back into the sport and want to shake off the cobwebs. That being said there are some decent sections of single track if you take the time to explore the side trails off the main trails. If you only have an hour or so to go for a ride it is a great place to go. I would not make the trip here from outside of Abbotsford to ride.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
LEDGEVIEW!!!!!

Summary:
As an experienced rider I scoped out the Bowl to see how fitting it would be for my kids (& me). Don't forget it's a community park in a bowl. For the most part it's a network of paths which roll downward, dotted with bridges through and around the marsh. The single track, for the most part, either joins paths or dead ends. They are mostly short distance climbs and descents. There is very little technical XC and only one creek crossing. There is a BMX bowl on the way down to the bottom and a plank bridge over a windfall. Cleaning the trails produced satisfaction but no thrills. The trails and paths are unmarked. Downes Bowl is appropriate for beginners looking improve their climbing skills and novices out for a low stress burn.

Recommended Route:
Rode it today for first time. No single recommended route as it would be confusing without names for the paths.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
None yet, just moved into town.
