One damn long, gruelling up hill climb to the powerline. You've only just begun. Continue up on to dem bones erection (more gruelling uphill singletrack)which turns into stupid trail (aptly named considering what your doing). This connects to Lactic Ridge which crosses a steep drainage and then connects to the Moccasin. Elevation gain is approx. 700 metres. Descend the direction you rode up or use the abandoned 4x4 road down to the powerline. Not for the faint of lung or heart. Oh, beware of the grizzlies.

Summary:
Rocky and rooty technical climb connecting to Mushroom head and Lactic ridge eventually connecting to Slunt where the downhill fun begins with some quick transitions and drops as you pick up speed. All that climbing was not wasted, as it then transitions into Brokeback ridge with high speed berms and spitting you out back on to Island lake rd

Recommended Route:
Dem Bones to Mushroom head to Lactic Ridge along terrifying switchbacks. Keep climbing until you see a sign complete with panties tempting you down SLUNT. Keep it up until Brokeback ridge where the fun continues until Island Lake road.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Fantastic couple of days riding cross country in Mount Fernie area, Project 9, Gorby to Verboden... Verboden is the most exciting of the downhills I did out there this time around. Also on the other side of town is Swine Flu. Great after dinner rides up Ridgemount Drive. What’s up Doc? and down from there. Being a flatlander all these trails really helped me with my climbing skills.

Summary:
Climb up the doubletrack, picking a line through the rain ruts. As the grade steepens, the surface gets better. Some trade-off, eh? Keep your head, and front wheel, down so you don't see the imposing final pitch. If you can clean this hill without stopping give yourself a pat on the back.
At the clearing take a right onto a shaded trail for about 200 meters, then up and right again onto singletrack. This starts as a moderate pitch then tilts up to test your strength and skill. At the next intersection go left and begin D'em Bones.
This trail rocks for a sweet bit of downhill action, swooping around blind corners and through large deadfall logs for about 15 minutes. Keep an ear tuned for riders and/or hikers climbing this fine trail.
When you are at the Provincial Park, find the bridge across Lizard Creek and ride into Sherwoody Forest for more Fernie fun.

Recommended Route:
For an even more killer climb, start from town and take the first right after crossing the south bridge (by Rippin' Richard's). Follow this road uphill onto gravel and look for a doubletrack on your left. Start sweating.
