Average Rating:    (4 of 5)

No. of Reviews: 1

30 km Loop, 900 m rise in 11 k from lake level on logging road. 19 km downhill on old road that sees no large vehicle traffic - some infrequent quads and motorcycles. First part of downhill is overgrown, frequent obstacles - mostly windfalls most of can be bunny hopped or chainwheeled, or ducked under. No bushwacking needed. Glasses and a long sleeved shirt are recommended. There are freqent small washes in the trail. Reineker Creek Valley trail is open and very fast. For those who are less inclined to climb this one, it can be shuttled to the landing at 11 km.

Trail Directions
About 15 km west of Salmon Arm on the Trans canada Highway, turn on to Sunnybrae - Canoe Point Road. At 7 km you will be at the trail head - a logging road climbing steeply across the face of Bastion Cliffs. If you are very fit park here. Otherwise drive up 2k and park adjacent to a rough road angling off to the right. Follow the road for 9k to a landing overlooking Shuswap Lake (the first view of the lake after leaving the cliff area. From the landing go right following the logging road into the trees. Keep right and at approximately 2 k you will be on logging road under construction (Sept 99). You are crossing the height of land and will see an old grassed in overgron road going straigt where the new road turns right. This is the trail head for 19 k of downhill. After approximately 10 k you will come on a well defined old road with a cattle track on it. Go right for about 1 km to a large grassy intersection with a barb wire fenced road going right. If the fence is up please replace after going through as there are cattle ranging here. You are entering Reineker Creek Valley. There are a couple of meadows and an abandoned Finnish Homestead along the road. At the first meadow, the creek is on the left and a good place for a break. Regain the trail by going to the right of a small clup of trees in the middle of the meadow. You will see the a slight rise in the medow indicating the old road. Follow the road - there are no branching trails for most of this section. After the old homestead ruins stay left at the first two branches to the right. The turn to look for is remarkable because of a small island of trees in the intersection. Go right, there are some short climbs and a couple of shallow stream crossings, then into a selectively logged area. Stay on the road to intersect with the Bastion Mt Road and our starting place.
