Mexican Jumping Bean

The demands of the Bean changes through the season. In early spring, after the melt, it's skill level varies between moderate and deadly. Through the summer into the fall it's skill level varies between moderate and difficult. It is a challenging and fast XC ride with lots of corners, creek bed and descents. Only one minor climb you can pretty well coast up if you let her rip going down before it. The entire trail lies under the forest's canopy which makes it nice and cool on a hot summer day. Mid summer, with the lines well defined, you can really burn from top to bottom limited only by your lungs and legs, not mention focus and concentration. The trail comes out on Clack Creek Forest Service Road. Turn uphill to get to the Three Steps. Turn downhill and fork east (left) to get to the Brodie "B" and the B&K. At the "T" intersection, that's the B&K, go down (south) to return to the power lines.
From Langdale ferry take Hwy 101 15 min west to Roberts Creek, turn north onto the B&K Logging Rd (if you see the entrance to Cliff Gilker Park you've gone too far). Go up 1 km to power lines and park under power lines. Ride to the top of the B&K Logging Rd (9km) or divert through Guy's Gulch (see Trail list) and resume climb to the top of the B&K. At the top the road bends west by 90 degrees. Follow the main road west for 1km, past the two spurs to the north (they go to Dakota Creek and Dakota Bowl respectively). Watch for flagged trees on the south side of the road (there are none before them). You're there.
Summary: Awsome DH course. No real drops or jumps (despite the name)and everything is ridable. The first bit sucks royaly but after you drop down onto the first bit of double track it is sweet! If you can, try to convince you to shuttle you up there a couple of times (unless you like climbing some 3400 feet on a DH bike) because this is one of those trails that gets better every time.
Recommended Route: Just ride it over and over if you can. At the bottom, you may want to go along the road and turn onto the trail at your right (the Brodie trail) this will take you right to the bottom.

Ridden Trail: Please Select

Summary: This is not a trail. There is an entrance into the woods, and then you have to stop every 10 feet to go around an obsticle. If you like to ride down creek beds with ferns, trees, sticks and other odds and ends then this would be a fun time. If you like single track, double track, or a track period this is not the ride for you. Personally I like a trail that has some flow and some twists and turns, this trail had none of those. Basically it was a long ride up, and a bad ride down. There are so many other nice trails in the area, do yourself a favour and visit them.
Recommended Route: The direction that psycho tie give are accurate. Follow them to the letter.

Ridden Trail: Ridden Once

Summary: FANTASTIC RIDE. Don't be discouraged by the first few hundred meters of the trail off the logging road, as it seems to be rarely ridden and can be quite rough. This is an amazing ride though, through miles of remote forest trails and is well worth the climb up B&K logging road.
Recommended Route: Follow Psycho Tie's directions word for word and they will lead you to the trail.
