Honey Bee and Big Mac Attack

Average Rating:    (5 of 5)

No. of Reviews: 2

Great trails through trees, single track, well beaten down and maintained and surprisingly few hikers. Honey Bee is 100% rideable, lots of curves and cambered corners altho pretty narrow and steep in places. Approximately 2 hour ride from the subway station to the end of Honey bee. Big Mac is very similar and about 85% rideable (a few short climbs and rocky sections especially at the top)

Trail Directions
"HoneyBee"...approx 7 subway stations south of Chamshil Station in Seoul City...on the pink subway line. From the subway climb up the sealed road into Namhan Sansong, a famous historical fortress, and head to the East gate (Grab a Fortress map from the entrance people). Thru the East gate and simply follow the obvious trails. There are a lot to explore. "Big mac Attack"... go out the West gate of the fortress and turn right, go approx 300 metres and follow the ridgeline in a northern direction back toward Seoul.

Summary:
Oh YEAH!! Honeybee, Big Mac, and the rest of Namhan Sansong are incredible. The variety of terrain in this area is unbelievable. Honeybee is at least 7KM of in-the-woods, flowing, speedy singletrack, with a couple of techy sections thrown in to keep us all honest. Big Mac on the otherhand, is steep, rocky, advanced technical riding for more than 5KM, with several interesting options for exits. All of the trails here are accessable by either mostly doable dirt climbs, or, for those in a hurry, road climbs (maybe even hitching a ride up). Write me, come here, ride this!

Hummer is the real techno dreamer's challenge. Big rocks+50 degrees+perpetually changing surface conditions. "it's so steep I can't see the bottom" Introduce your ass to your back tire.

Summary:
Some corrections to the above:
1) Sansong Station is the correct subway stop. Ride from there up a 4.5km paved road to South Gate. You're now at the fortress entrance.
2) West gate only connects to a paved road. To reach Honeybee and many other trailheads, head to North Gate and turn right onto dirt and follow the old fortress wall around. Too difficult to explain here after this point.
3)Mountain Bike Korea website (the correct address): http://www.angelfire.com/ga/achamtb

Recommended Route:
Honeybee is the best introduction to trail riding around Seoul. Worldclass. Escape the smog and head to Namhan Sansong Park to the SE of Seoul, where all these trails are located.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Lots of opportunities for first descents, big hucks, high sphincter factor. Trails like Hummer, Rim Job, Butt Crack, The Valley of Death and so on make for good steep fun. Of course, none of this is signed, and few bikers know them.
