Summary:
A few quick thoughts on this.. the first of which is, Cibubur isn't just Cibubur. If you live here, a few years back, you could be in a nice lonely area after just 10 mins riding from your back door. Sadly, now, due to the greediness of local developers, it's not the same story. All the same, a start from Cibubur can take you all the way through Cileungsi, Bekasi, Setu, Cikarang, Jonggol and back to Citeureup and Cibubur.. that's about 120km, most of it off road.

As previously mentioned, there's also the Puncak route, and they all interconnect.. if you're up for it. Happy trails.

Summary:
Flat with rolling sections on kampung track and singletrack. Watch out crossing on bamboo bridges. I fell through once. Being skewered on bamboo is not good. If you stop at the house next to bamboo bridge closest to the scout camp, for god's sake man, wear the sheath. Do not try riding the singletrack after heavy rain. The clay turns to red paste. On the other hand, some moisture after a long dry spell leaves it a little tacky and hoo-eee! nothing like it. This is a pleasant ride, and the closest in to Jakarta. You can go door to door from Jakarta and get a 30 km ride in only 3.5 hours.

Recommended Route:
Loads of them. Instead of parking in scount camp, can also park in any of the housing estates of the road to Jonggol/Bandung. There is a locally published hiking guide book that has maps indicating many of the trails. Also, hashers know a lot of these trails. If you buy them beer, they will do just about anything for you including show you some trails.

Cibubur is something to do only when you don't have time to go to the trail system off the Cituerup-Jonggol road, or loops out of Sentul Selatan. Cibubur is mountain biking without the mountains, but these other areas a bit farther out & have some serious hills. Cibubur is maybe 2 or 3 stars, these other areas are 4 or 5. Have not seen as good in northern or southern california, but maybe I just haven't looked hard enough. We ride them weekly on Sunday mornings. Some of the best single track I've been on is ride up on kampung tracks to the top of Gunung Hambalang, and drop down the back side through sinkong fields and remaining rubber plantation. It's easy to get lost or end up in the wrong watershed if you're not careful. Access from either Cileungsi or Sentul Selatan. Another is out of Jonggol to Sukamakmur, and return via kampung track on ridge. About 45 kms. Not much single track, but good ride anyway. Or, if you have more time, drop on the Bandung side of Puncak and you have about 50 kms back to Citeurup. Includes some remaining primary forest, but its going fast. Other epic rides are Sukabumi-Pelabuhan Ratu through Halimun national park, maybe 80 kms, don't try in rainy season, took us 11 hours last time, and whatever you do don't biff it off one of the single tracks clinging to edge of the mountain because you'll go the way of that Rockefeller in Irian. Take time to explore and you will be rewarded with some great riding. Check out the the latest Falk map (jakarta road atlas) available at finer bookstores and hotels in Jakarta to get the general lay of the land and main access roads.

Summary:
I rode with this group while on vacation in Indonesia. Jay is right on with the description of the trail. The group is made up of mostly locals with some ex-pats thrown in the mix. Fortunately for me, enough of the riders spoke English so I was able to communicate with them. Even if they didn't, they were great at making sure that no one was getting lost. There are so many turns that you have to follow someone. The riding reminded me of the USA's East coast riding: lots of little bumps, no big hills, but no long downhills to catch your breath. Just push, push, push. Plus, the humidity was definitely a factor (especially for someone from extra-dry Colorado). My personal favorite part of the ride was giving the "high 5's" to the school children yelling "Hello Mister!". Just when I thought I had no more energy, they would get me pumped to keep riding hard. I highly recommend this ride to any travelers that ride. It's a great way to get out of the big city and experience the small villages, farms, and beautiful landscape. The group has a big mix of abilities from racers to easy riding weekend warriors.

Summary:
The Warmup
Get to the park at 7:45 to check out the bike and make sure its ready. Lots of experienced hands and tools around if you need help with soomething, We try to leave around 8:00 am, else it gets too hot at the end. The Ride
Varied surfaces, pavement, broken asphlat, gravel, clay, dirt etc. Very little up or down. The rides go through small villages, past schools where the children all run out to yell "Hello Mister" and give high fives. Also, around rice paddies, over various bamboo bridges, through the jungle.
This is a strenuous ride,30-40km in hot humid conditions. The pace can be fairly quick for the front group. A couple of the guys act as sweepers for those of us who can't crank so fast. These guys are lifesavers if you flat or have to slow down.
After 20-25 km, we stop at a local warung for cold drinks and local snacks, then there is the decision to take the longer (14km) or shorter (8km) route back to the car.
This is a fantastic group of people who really make riding an enjoyable way to spend Saturday morning.

Recommended Route:
Too many combinations to list, follow the group to keep from getting lost
