Camp Casey/Hovey Trail

Average Rating:    (3 of 5)

No. of Reviews: 3

Fun singletrack easily accessible from Camp Casey. Go out the Golsandong Village gate (by 210 FIRES) and follow the paved road up. It's kinda steep but you'll be at the top in just a couple minutes. Stop once you're at the top. You'll see a road going left down into the village and some Korean exercise equipment. To the right, a dirt road takes off. This is the start of the trail and it becomes singletrack very quickly. There is also an "MTB" sign at the trailhead. There are 3 or 4 very short hike a bike sections on this trail but other than that it is very fast and flowy. It essentially follows the back side of Casey and Hovey and ends at the Shea Range Gate. Once there, turn around and ride it in reverse...it's just as fun going the other way! Plus you get to ride down the steep hill from the beginning! Just make sure you slow down to show your ID at the gate. :) Great trail for an after work ride or laps on the weekend. Send me a PM if you want to ride; I'm here until March 2012.

Summary:
This is no longer a single track trail. It is vehicle accessible and is a mix of paved and dirt sections. Still a fun ride.

Summary:
This is a great little section of the overall WangBangSan race course (hence the MTB sign). This section is the fifth section of the race course. If you keep straight into the village and follow the 4x4 path up (and up, and up, and up) it connects to the other sections. It's actually the race course in reverse. I used to ride this little trail often last time I wa here - looks like the flood last summer reeked some havoc.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
1. WangBangSan race course in Dongduchon; 45 km (starts at DDC stadium)
2. MacheSan trail network; 12-15 km of single track. (west of Camp Mobile)
3. DDC stadium trail network; 12-15 km of knarly single track in the hills east of DDC stadium.

Summary:
The hill leading to this trail is pretty gnarly. My heart is still pumping. I think this trail will be better in about a year. We had some massive flooding and landslides in the area that have made a parts of this trail pretty bad. That and the rocks make for a challenging ride. I will def try again once the ground dries up a bit more. Not a bad trail though. Very aerobic.
