Bukit Timah Nature Reserve

Average Rating:    (3.75 of 5)

Intermediate course with some steep up/down slopes. Several sections littered with loose rocks and thick mud. Do not underestimate this trail, it looks pretty mild but it is actually quite hardcore.

Summary:
The trail comes with signs what to expect ahead of you(e.g. "3 km uphill, prepare for low gear", or "0.3 km steep downhill"). But don't think it's easy, you will find yourself dismounting your bike and pushing on those narrow and deep tracks. Some creatures will also surprise you on your fast downhill. Snake on the track, running and shouting monkeys, and camouflaged lizard were some of these creatures around.

Recommended Route:
you will see suggested route sign along the way.

Summary:
Like so many riders my age livin in the area,we love our Bukit Timah trail.heck i used to ride my bmx here after watching ET as a kid.most common mistake riders make is underestimating Bt Timah.bad idea.treacherous rocks, roots, climbs, descents, secret trails and monkeys laughing in the tree tops await every flat tyre, broken chain, smashed derailuers etc.riders will find themselves pushing their bikes up some climbs.one in particular seems so unconquerable, the rangers made steps along the slope for us riders.come prepared with extras and minitools and water,BT timah will reward with a good day out in its technical trail.the ultra popular and dangerous 'kamikaze' trail, accessible only by goin thru the muslim school(now gone)is no more.

Recommended Route:
none...go thru em all again and again.my favourite path thru the granite quarry(used to go kamikaze diving there too)is now a popular place for posers to take pictures of their expensive bikes.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
bukit batok nature reserve for DHillers.but take note, very steep and sharp and a 'no bike' zone me thinks.

Summary:
Basic 6 km loop. Repeat till you've achieved your required training distance. There are few of weekend hikers/joggers and inconsiderate dog-owners who walk their dogs at your and their peril on this designated MTB trail.

Technically tricky because the uphills and paths have roots, loose rocks, and smooth tiles/bricks put there to prevent soil erosion. Hidden ruts and holes especially on the downhill sections add to the sense of excitement. Can get hot and humid so bring the water.

Very slippery when it rains and things that look firm can actually be very slippery. Especially the mud pools before or after bends, caused by cyclists braking hard before the turn in dry weather. Will try to submit some photos soon.

Recommended Route:
It's a loop with a one or two sections that branch off and lead back to the main trail. Try them all.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Boys Brigade Trail (few km away).
Tampinies Cycle Park (20km away).
All in Singapore.
