Mt. Makiling - Mudspring Main route
1 reviews
 5 of 5

Trail is supposed to be created by UPLB to have asphalt for vehicles, but the duration of time, it is now replaced by very rocky and slippery rocks, mixture of mud. The trail towards mudspring junction is as slippery, you might need a 2.3 tire going up. once you have reach the junction, you have already accummulated approximately 4KM travel and hav ascended 400 MASL. ONce you have reach Mudspring junction, continue the road up, you will feel that the trail becomes narrower but yet rocky and loose rocks. continue up for another 100 meters ascend and you will reach the watersource area for hikers (be polite as you pass through hikers along the way), some zigzaging curves and you will come across a very big trunk blocking the way, this would be the start of the foot trail. You can make your way up to peak 1, but will require you to carry your bike in most of the trails. at the Trunk area, you will have reached 500 MASL elevation. Downhill trail down would be very technical, very bumpy ride with loose round rocks. Everything down the trail will give you non-stop bumps untill you have reached the ranger station.

Summary:
Trail is easy to find since this is a famous route for mountaineers and hikers. Very slippery trail going up if you are not wearing some 2.3 size tires after the rain. I would rate the trail as 3 of 5, with 5 as the most difficult. Trail going up from Mudspring Junction requires additional push up for more slippery rocks (This damn trail is all bumps and rocks!!!) Reaching the big trunk would require you to carry your bike and continue the foot trail.... very technical if you'll ride the trail though. Downhill ride (going back) is possible at 30 to 40KMH unless you are prepared like having a very plush suspension fork and very reliable brakes or a hydraulic disc brake is readily included. Rigid forks or not so plushy suspension forks will only hurt your hands and may require you to take a rest once in a while. But do enjoy the downhill ride, some jumps are so unpredictable.
