Summary:
one of the best tracks ive ridden in this part of the world. the downhill isnt really a proper downhill- not particularly technical, lots of flat and even some uppy bits, but heaps of fun to ride. at the 98 monsoon noone riding a fs managed top 10 in dh. the xc is brilliant- heart breaking climbs, top gear cant-pedal-any-faster downhills and sweet singletrack sections. ace!

Ridden Trail:
Every few months

Summary:
During the race in August 98,this 4.5km course starts at the open space by the road, heading inland towards 'Mc Gimmick's Corner'Its all fireroad, non technical, but long climbs rewarded with series of scary-fast downhills. A tropical down-pour definately spice-up this trail.Full of surprises, slipery as hell on the chalky ground at 'Devils Gate'. Mud pit for a soft landing, breaks rendered useless by sand. Wet and mud combine with the weird feelings of the forest just makes you wonder:
'BLIZZ?'
December 98:'The Moonsoon MTB Off Road Race'.But the rain was somewhere else with El Nino.
Condition and route were different from August. Its 5.8 km course starts running parallel to the surfaced road. On dirt up a small hill to the void of 'Devil's Gate'with its grey chalk hardpack terain, a killer at noon with temp 30-35C. Shade is at the singletrack section of the forest, a short winding path between trees, fill with undergrowth and roots on loose ground-technically demanding. Exit the forest and back to the fire road, awaits a short but steep granny climb. Here its black dust, only a single line provide the neccessary traction as the sides are too loose and deep. At the top the trail gets flat for a few hundred meters, this x'country track cross the downhill section. A blind right turn under the bridge here is the biginning of the 1.5km downhill that merge with part of the downhill course and will take you back to the starting point. The breather on this downhill section alows rider to recover enought to go a few more laps.
There's most of the elements here which make this trail a good FUN ride. Its terain changes with the days weather condition, which make each ride special. This is the tropic at its best.

Recommended Route:
Access by ferry from Singapore and arrive on the Johor/Malaysia side 35$ poorer but 30km closer to Desaru.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Downhill course: 2.1km, 5% uphill,47% flat,5% downhill,43% extreme downhill.Watchout for the double drop-off at the end of the singletrack in the woods. Nice course, but hard work is needed to maintain speed and keep the edrinaline flowing.
